I'm glad to see that people are doing such a holy job to preserve and maintenance important parts of our eternity history!

The chasam Sofer comes to life with Menachems tour. Menachem was waiting for us as arranged. His knowledge of the history of this holy site as was his patience. Very uplifting visit for my entire family.

A very special place to visit, the security man opened us after hours for a minimal pay and unlike a normal cemetery this is underground which makes it slightly spooky for the kids but hey it helps bring the emotions out in your prayer

The Mausoleum of Chatam Sofer is the tomb of Chatam Sofer (1762–1839), a rabbi of the Bratislava Jewish community and a representative of traditional Jewish learning in Bratislava. It represents a Jewish pilgrimage site. It was opened in 2002 for the 240th anniversary of his birth. The building is nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

It is located on the site of the oldest Jewish cemetery in Bratislava, which was founded in the 17th century when the Pálffi family allowed Jews to bury their dead near the castle fortifications. It was used until 1847. In 1942, most of the graves were flooded after a great flood. Only 23 graves and 41 tombstones have survived, including the grave of Rabbi Chatam Sófer.

Beautifully Renovated!

There was another large group at the same time as us, and there was still enough room... Probably around 75-100 people inside at the same time. The shul above it was very pleasant to daven in as well. Ah, the Tefillos and singing here was beautiful!!

Seems like you must make arrangements or schedule in advance.

You must visit this remnants of what once was a larger Jewish cemetery if you are either interested in the 17-century major religious scholar, the Chatam Sofer, want to say Tehillim (pray) at kever (grave) of a one of the Jewish world's greatest Gadols (great sage) or if you are one of his 100.000 descendants or if you are simply into Jewish history in general.
Book in advance!

One of the greatest Rabbi's of his time with 100,000's of descendants! If needed the public transport has a stop across the road called 'Hatam Sofer'.
