The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, commonly known as Church of St Peter or simply Peter's Church is a Serbian Orthodox church, the oldest intact church in Serbia and one of the oldest ones in the region, situated on a hill of Ras, the medieval capital of the Serbian Grand Principality (Rascia), in Novi Pazar, Serbia. It is part of the Stari Ras complex, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was founded in the 4th century during Roman rule, while additions were made in the 7th and 9th centuries, after which it served as the ecclesiastical seat of the Serbian church, and as the baptismal church and state council site of the Nemanjić dynasty, until the last years of the 12th century. It is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul.
The exact date of founding is unknown, it is mentioned in the 9th century as the seat of the eparchy of Serbia. Excavations on the site have unearthed Greek sculptures and Black-figure pottery dating to 7th and 6th century BC, as well as a 5th-century BC princely grave (with regalia, robes, gold-silver jewelry, masks, beads and Attic pottery), underneath the floor of the church in 1957–58.The findings are presently at the National Museum of Serbia, in Belgrade. Roman, Byzantine and medieval Slavic tombs surround the church.
Archaeological findings point that the church has been rebuilt several times in history, beginning in the 4th century, with notable additions made in the 7th century. The architectural style resembles that of early churches in Pomorje, Armenia, Georgia, and Italy, dated to between the 7th and 9th centuries.
This a tru gem of human haritage and you must visit it.

Built between 7th and 9th century, it is the oldest church in Serbia and one of the oldest in Balkans.
There is a graveyard around the church and the oldest graves shaped like a coffin are from 12th century.
Stefan Nemanja was baptized and married in this church and his two sons (Saint Sava and Stefan Nemanjić) were baptized here as well.
It is easily reachable from Novi Pazar.

Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul – Ras , Novi Pazra - Serbia

In Peter's church, Serbian Stefan Nemanja was again baptized 1163 as Serbian Orthodox , miropomazan. There he held a famous parliament where they were convicted of guilty, as well as a parliament where he handed over his throne to his son Stefan Prvovenčan. Here Nemanja received a monastic postrigar from the bishop of Kalinik.
The Holy Sava Serbian ordered (1219) the church of St. Peter and Paul for the seat of the Rashka episcopacy. In the 15th century, the Episcopate was elevated to the degree of the metropolitan.

The oldest Christian church in Serbia in Ras which had been the first Serbian state. Stefan Nemanja Prvovenčani was crowned there. Also princes Stefan, Vukan and Rastko (latest monk and founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church) were baptized there in the 12th century.

Easily reached from the city - impressive in how good of a shape it is.
Unfortunately no entering the church itself.
It is said to cost 2EUR but nobody was there to collect it when I went.
