An Orthodox Christian monastery from the 14th century, built by Serbian viceroy Dragutin, from the Nemanjići dynasty. On the bank of the small river and just below the mountain Tara, this monastery was the centre of the manually copying religious texts and books thru the history. The monastery is calm and quiet, leaving you under the impression that you are far from the civilisation. In the back of the monastery, on the small hill i a beanc with the great view on monastery. Worth visiting.

Just beautiful.

The monastery became a place where Serbian rulers, nobles, and church dignitaries were buried. The monks translated texts from Ancient Greek, wrote histories, and copied manuscripts (the most famous scriptorium was in Rača, known as the School of Rača, which flourished from the sixteenth- to the eighteenth-century); they translated and copied not only liturgical but scientific and literary works of the period. History of Serbian literature owes most of the creativity to the Račanska škola.

Historic place, monastery, built around 1270 AD. Twice burnt by Turks, and twice rebuilt by serbian peasants. On a mountain Tara, near river Drina. Allegedly this was the place where Miroslavljevo jevanđelje was held for some time

An Orthodox Christian monastery from the 14th century, built by Serbian viceroy Dragutin, from the Nemanjići dynasty. On the bank of the small river and just below the mountain Tara, this monastery was the centre of the manually copying religious texts and books thru the history. Even though it is only some 5 kilometrars from a nearby town of Bajina Bašta and practically bordering a nearby village, the place is calm and quiet, leaving you under the impression that you are far from the civilisation. Worth visiting, even if you are only interested in sight-seeing.
There is an open exhibition of some of the monastery artifacts for all the visitors.

The monastery is located six kilometers from Bajina Bašta and is considered to be the endowment of King Dragutin Nemanjić from the 13th century. In addition to the transcription school that was located here, it is also important to mention that during the Second World War, Miroslav's gospel was kept here. The Gospel was preserved thanks to the fact that it was hidden under the stone slabs of the altar.
Within the monastery there is also a monastery treasury where you can see various relics on display.

One of the most important orthodox monasteries soon to be a cyrillic museum so if you are around Bajina Basta you should visit this place. When visiting please do not disturb monks and dont wear anything short and revealing because it's disrespectful.

Monestery in Bajna Basta that preserves handwritten books from 16th century and objects used by famous Serbian lords who led the rebelian against Turks. The monks in the monestery are exceptional and helpful. They helped us fix the problem with our car! Actually we ended up in the ditch next to the road. Without the help of one of the fathers, we would have to leave the car and wait for the next day to get it out.

Nice old orthodox monastery. 2,4K (or 1,5M) from monastery is wellspring Ladjevac. Nice walk but it's possibly to go 3/4 of a way by car. Beautiful spring and even better cascades. Water is drinkable but seriously cold for swimming. There used to be a forest trail from monastery to the spring but it is ruined by large landslide recently. All most impossible to go trough there without gear.
