Batista do Bacalhau

Found this place just looking through the maps of the area trying to find a local restaurant. At first as we walked up I was sceptical as it was so indiscernible as a restaurant except for the people coming in and out for take out. Once we walked in there was a full restaurant awaiting us. The waiter was fantastic and I myself was quite excited to eat at a place that specializes in cod fish (bacalhau). Well I can say it did not disappoint, the cod and smash potatoes were amazing and the wine selection was fantastic. We had a great meal at a restaurant that I’d recommend to anyone that enjoys a good meal. The one thing I’ll also highly recommend is the Natas to Ceu congeladas. Anyone that’s had this as it’s normally presented and is a fan will absolutely love the ice cream version of it. So please, treat yourself to a local gem of a restaurant

Authentic experience. Where the locals eat. Best food, fresh, generous portions, friendly service. A true taste of real Portuguese food.

One of the best cod I've ever eaten.
It's all about the way they cook it.
Try the "migas" with the main course and "ovas de bacalhoa" and "pataniscas" for appetizers.
Very good choice of wines.
And for dessert try "natas do céu com ovos moles". Delicious.
Highly recommended.

I think it was the best fish I have ever eaten in my life. I didn’t think you could make cod so tasteful. Soft, tender and absolutely deliciously seasoned. Baked potatoes are out of this world. If you are around Porto/Aveiro area you have to eat there and try their bacalhau. It might be the best fish you ever had. It surely was for me.

From the starter dishes all the way to the deserts, everything is very good!

One of the best places to eat the traditional Portuguese cod fish, "bacalhau". The staff are amazingly friendly. Food is lovely and with huge portions. There aren't too many vegetarian or vegan options, but please speak with the staff, they have other dishes apart from the menu. I ate an amazing beyond burger.

We had the most incredible codfish, the specialty of the house. Everything was so delicious, follow by yummy chocolate mousse. We even got a backroom tour showing how the cod was rehydrated. Such a neat place, and reasonably priced.

Give them a Michelin star, PLEASE!!!!! Absolute best bacalhau I’ve ever had. And the roasted potatoes deserve a star of their own. Be sure to make reservations, you won’t regret it..

Another must visit restaurant in Aveiro Portugal. Service is impeccable and the bacalhau is the best in the city if not the country...

The food is just unbelievably GOOD

Everything was perfect. The best cod I've ever tasted. They have some secret dor this cod. It is actually awesome. The staff is very good. Dessert and drinks are very good too. I strongly recommend this place.

Fantastic grilled cod. This place is hidden to most buy really worth the visit. One "slabe" of cod is good for three people. Also does takeaway. Truly a must if you like food.

We got great service and a great amount of food! If you wanna visit a real Portuguese place, this is for sure one of them. Personally we really liked it there, and for me not speaking Portuguese it was English translations in the menu 😀

Best Bacalhau in Aveiro, best bacalhau I ever had. Just delicious. Neighborhood restaurant, mostly frequented by locals. Very limited menu. You go there for the bacalhau. Simple decor, very friendly service, and very good prices. Portions are big.

One of the best cod dished I've ever tasted in my life. The have several varieties of dishes with cod you must try. Is a must if you're near Porto.
