Bom Retiro

First a very important information: take cash, they do not accept card payments (at the date of writing this review), and no ATM available around. This is perhaps the only downside before visiting. Food is excellent taste and freshly cooked. Everytime I had a meal here (many), I never left disappointed with food. Service is the good and "basic" portuguese family local restaurant type, do not expect more than that. It's a local, value for money, community food restaurant. Many Camino de Santiago pilgrims normally. One of the owners speaks English which is helpful for pilgrims and tourists. Menu in English, Spanish and other languages too.

Fantastic lunch spot on the Camino, very pilgrim friendly, and great choice of menu options. Walls covered in Camino messages. Shared the cod, pork and veal, and all were good. Offered coffee with extra shot 😉. Great service!

Great service. Excellent food. Good value for the money. Pilgrims menu was awesome! €11 included a huge main dish with salad, amazing fresh cut and fried fries. Fluffy rice. Soup, drink and coffee included. Regular food menu had awesome options too but without soup, nor drink nor coffee.... So, I went for the Pilgrims menu... worth it!

What can I say ! I am walking the Camino and have stopped in Rubiaes for the night. I popped down to BOM Retiro for the Pilgrim dinner- delicious and huge ! The best chicken salad, soup and wine and only 11 euros. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. Thank you so much. I'm sure I will be able to walk twice as far tomorrow

Fabulous meal on my Camino, excellent service.

Excellent service and great food for a pilgrim. They have the menu in every language possible, which is helpful and the food is quite good. It may be one of the only places in town to eat, but even if it weren't, I'd still choose it.

Massive portions and the price is very cheap. Very attentive service!

Beautiful little restaurant off the National road in Rubias. Got immediate service with a greeting from Jorge that will melt your heart. I am from Los Angeles and owned a restaurant for 7 years and also managed at some of the biggest restaurants in Marina Del Rey and Beverly Hills. This little gem is absolutely 5 stars. The chef perfectly cooked my steak. My girlfriend ordered the veal and it was tender and flavorful. The white wine was a perfect pair for the tender and naturally raised beef, even though most people pair reds with red meat. We also had the soup of the day which was made with white beans and cabbage. It was hearty and full of flavor. If you are on the Camino this is a must stop.

This place was a Godsend on a January Sunday after walking across from Ponte de Lima with not much open until we arrived here. Chicken salad was great. Thanks very much
