Wahoo Diving

Wahoo Diving exceeded our expectations. First and foremost, their processes are well established, ingrained and communicated thoroughly. They focus on clear, concise processes for setting up your gear, safety while at the marina on the boat (in case of an emergency), timing/weather conditions/where to sit for safety and comfort during the ride then once anchored a dive plan briefing with time set aside to address and questions or concerns.

Management and staff are friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and helpful.

Steffen Ehrath of Wahoo Diving was able to develop a package for diving, accommodations and transportation far more competitive than we could.

Like many customers, we had Wahoo Diving get us certified. In our case it was Deep Dive certification. Both of us agreed Steffen and his team at Wahoo Diving clearly identified the objectives before each dive, discussed the dive plan and validated accomplishments of each objective throughout each dive.

Something extremely important that goes unnoticed or just ‘expected’, Steffen and his team goes above and beyond to delight the customer. They make your dive experience the best by identifying those things that most people enjoy when diving. During the ride to and from the dive site, they are scouring the surface and horizon to search for an added encounter with a bait ball, dolphins, mobulas, tuna, jacks, etc. They educate you on the optimal approach when viewing marine life. They provide real life information to set your nerves at easy. You truly get ‘full service’ with Wahoo Diving.

We’d recommend Wahoo Diving. They do an outstanding job providing the complete diving experience. They’ve made our trip memorable.

I had a great time diving with Steffen & Co at Wahoo Diving Centre - it was actually my first ever dive in the middle of the open ocean (we visited Ambrosio which is a great spot!). Surreal experience and I absolutely loved it!! Steffen is obviously very experienced and knowledgeable and you will feel confident in his pair of hands. I also had a very close encounter with mobula rays in the open water which was incredible - exactly what I was looking for! Highly recommend and we will keep in touch Steffen! J Y

I did 5 days diving with Wahoo Diving end July 2023, 100% recommend diving with them. From the start Steffen was very responsive and helpful when planning the trip, also recommending accommodation and rental cars.

The dive centre is fresh, the equipment in very good condition and the team are a pleasure to dive with: professional, calm, collected and friendly. I travel solo with my kid which can present challenges for diving but Steffen, the team, the Skipper and even the dogs were super kind and we found ways to make it work :).

There are many dive sites around Santa Maria, everyday something new. We saw a range of aquatic life spanning from small circular plankton to whale sharks passing by nudibranches, octopus and mobula ray along the way.

Wahoo diving was the best dive centre I dived with in the Azores, I’d happily dive with them again!!!

Quality diving with Steffen and team. Communication, organization, safety, environmental care, all were excellent. Highly recommend. Update 2022: my second time diving here. Wonderful dives, well planned and always a time to adapt to circumstances and stop to snorkel with a whaleshark if the opportunity arises. Can’t wait to go back.

Amazing experience.

Found Wahoo Diving on the internet, made a contact and got all the needed info + several updates about the sea/weather conditions in the next days, to better organize the dive/snorkeling (as we are 2 friends one diver one snorkeler). We were there on August 11th 2020.

Guys from Wahoo made the excursion incredible for both of us.
Really had a great day, with the perfect see conditions and with the experience, the local knowledge and attention of Steffen, Bart and Captain Màrcia (who can spot a whale shark a thousands miles away!! 🧐) we got the chance to see several whale sharks, yellowfin tunas, fish balls, and so many mobulas! And dolphins!! Swimming next to the boat while we were at sea.
Even me that I was just snorkeling, I saw them all!!
And I’m gonna get a PADI after that experience.

Great in the water, also very nice on land 😉!
We got back from the dive and had a drink and a chat all together. I got food tips about tremoço&beer (thanks Màrcia!) and Kima (thanks Marion!). I kept ordering those things for all the rest of the trip.

What a great place to dive.

I have experience with a lot of different diving companies, but this is a really good one. Professional staff, helpful, nice. The boss is a nice guy, know what he is doing.

The diving places are nice, I had the luck that I saw many whale sharks and Mobula's. But also without them there is a nice variety in fish, landscape and caves.

I'd would recommend this place if you are looking for a good dive center, small, and just want to dive with experienced divers.

Last but not least, the water can be cold but they have nice tea on the surface!

A huge thanks to Steffen and his whole team. We spent 5 beautiful diving days with them. The team is highly professional and well organized, the equipment is really good and they are super friendly. I can only recommend this dive center 🤿🐠🐟

We have been diving for four days with Wahoo Diving . Dives were incredible , especially Ambrosio where we had the chance to dive with more than 40 mobula rays . The other diving sites are also very nice with many caves. We mostly dove with Milena who is an awesome guide, always smiling and always here for helping . My girlfriend also had a freediving course with Ondine who was really patient , nice and professional .
Finally the spirit of the club was great, always having fun together , I recommend !

Awesome dive company! Had a great time driving with them, and felt 100% safe. They don't baby you around, but it's noticable they do keep an eye on you. Steffen it's very skilled at what he does. Highly recommend this company.

If you're going to dive on Santa Maria book with Wahoo. The whole team is a really professional outfit with quality, well serviced rental equipment and safe guided dives with detailed briefings delivered in a relaxed environment with any help you need available.

Highly recommend to spend at least a week or more diving as loads more to see than just the big pelagics with some really cool swim-throughs, caverns, and smaller life. Even doing the same site was a different experience each time with something new to see. Dived in June and was warm enough with a 7mm wetsuit. The ginger tea provided is also great.

The Mobula Rays are truly special and a dive you just don't want to end.

Everything was sorted for us and would like to say a huge thanks to Steffen, Rike, João, Miguel, Henri, Vicki and everyone else who made it the best diving we've ever done and for all the effort they put in over the 2 weeks we dived with you!

Had the most amazing dives with wahoo, especially the mobula ray dive at Ambrosio. Steffen and his team were super professional but also extremely helpful and friendly with everything. Did my OWD there. Steffen, the instructor, made me feel safe and guided me well through the entire process. for the basics, we had a 1 on 1 session in the pool, which is nice as he does it according to your “learning pace” and you won’t feel overwhelmed.

Can definitely recommend the diving center! (Also, his dog skipper is awesome!)

Wahoo Diving is much more than a dive center. Owner Steffen puts his whole heart into It and cares deeply about his team, the guests, each dive experience, the ocean and Santa Maria. I've never met a more competent dive instructor and I never felt more safe underwater. Excellent dive sites and a kind crew make saltwater dreams come true. I've met incredible people from all walks of life and returned for the third time already. Will definitively come back next season. Thank you for everything!

Great dive center, excellent clean equipment and very friendly staff. Highly highly recommend.
Ambrosia is a fantastic dive site, our experience there was as good as Princess Alice, for a fraction of the price and with a much shorter boat ride.
Also saw lots of whale sharks (5-6) diving with these guys and snorkeled with them at the surface.
Steffen and his team are excellent, and gave us our favourite diving in the Azores

I did my OWD and Nitrox course with Wahoo Diving and loved my first diving experience there!! Great equipment, super nice dive spots and a very professional crew, super friendly and so helpful also with everything beyond diving on the island. Super team and organisation! Beautiful sites and possibility to see different places in short time, we where even lucky to see whalesharks and tunas hunting <3 thanks a lot for some beautiful underwater time and above!

We have had a great time diving with Wahoo Diving! Steffen, Marion and Marcia are super friendly, hearty and great hosts! My girlfriend did the AOWD course and in addition, we both took the Nitrox course here. Steffen is a great and very experienced diving instructor. We enjoyed that all dives were well organized, very well explained and calm. We enjoyed all spots. One of the highlights was Ambrosia – we have been there two times and both times, we have seen many, many Mobulas (more than 15 at the same time!).
The equipment was very good in shape and comfortable. Prices were transparent from the beginning and fair. Check-in was relaxed and professional. We went to all spots via a comfortable boat. Tea and cookies are inclusive – we brought water and sandwiches additionally on the boat. Do not forget sun cream and a hat or cap as it can become quite sunny and windy on the boat.
Steffen and Marion also helped us in beforehand of our stay with accommodation (we got a beautiful vacation house in Vila do Porto) and a rental scooter (22 EUR/day). We really enjoyed their great service and felt like being there with friends. We can only recommend go diving with them!

Amazing and unique diving spots, we loved our experience. The staff was great, we'll come back !
