Beautiful restaurant, great flavours and amazing staff!
We were a party of 5, as we did not reserve in advance on Friday the owner booked us an early slot for the next day at 7pm as they were fully booked for that night as well.
We started with some cocktails, which were delicious. The bartender approached to our table to get to meet our preferences and design some cocktails based on those.
We decided to try 9 of the tapas and sharing plates, all of them customized to have 5 of each and live the full experience.
Each plate was better than the one we got before, different combination of flavours, great presentation and big portions is what makes MERCANTEL a “must go” when in Aveiro.

Definitely a reason to go back to Aveiro.
Book ahead, because I believe in the next month's it's going to be the hottest place in town.

This place was recommended by our friends who grew up in Aveiro. We would not have picked this place if we were exploring on our own because we would assume it was a tourist trap base on the location. To our delight, the food was great, the service was exceptional and the location was perfect. You can people watch and enjoy the scenic parts of Aveiro.

Gorgeous food, local recipees revisited, beautiful wine list (and famous gin list too), very friendly and professional staff, nice interior.
Speciality of food to share, we had 9 of them (5 starters, 1 main, 3 desserts), all of them very tasteful. The ratio price/quality/quantity is perfect.
I promised to come back, and I will!

A breath of fresh air in a Portugal that cannot count the number of restaurants that offer exactly the same dishes everywhere.

So here we are, entering this restaurant that couldn't be in a better location in Aveiro (in front of the canal, steps away from Mercado do Peixe). Inside, you feel like teleportation exists and you landed in a fancy, classy, high-end restaurant in Manhattan.

Service is almost perfect, which is a rare thing in the country. The menu is deliberately proclaimed as "sharing dishes", which is a concept I love.

The chef (or owner ?) Wants to please everyone and the menu ends up with ravishing experimental dishes that will delight your taste bids and stir your curiosity but there's also dishes without a twist (like fried small fishes, very Portuguese) that shouldn't be on this menu, unless revisited because that is what this restaurant should be all about.

The wine selection could be better, including natural and / or organic wines, in order to reinforce the quality focus that the restaurant wishes to convey.

Some dishes are absolutely spectacular (the corvina ceviche made with dark plum leite de tigre is a masterpiece), some others simply very good and well, some less to my (very demanding) taste. It is to be said that their chocolate mousse is the best I've had in my entire life.

I would suggest humbly to the chef to add some reflexion about how guests share the dish - since it's a sharing experience, as some dishes are not easy to share because of the plating or some ingredients. They look fabulous, often taste the same but not easy to handle as a shared dish.

Overall a really refreshing, very pleasant experience. Professional and friendly staff, attentionate.

The value for money, for a restaurant in this category and at this location, is exceptional.

Provavelmente não foi o melhor dia para visitar o Mercantel, no meio de um aniversário e com mais dois aniversários na sala, logo havia bastante barulho. O serviço foi muito bom, muito atencioso e a comida estava boa e o arroz de forno com naco de carne grelhado e simplesmente divinal. Quero regressar noutro registo porque acho que vale a pena.

Nos gustó tanto, que repetimos al día siguiente. Personal súper amable, y los platos son deliciosos absolutamente todos los que probamos. La cocina tiene mucha calidad y la mezcla de sabores es impresionante.
Los jueves tienen una experiencia de cena con Dj que está súper animada.
Nos sorprendió el precio tan bajo que tenían sus platos para la elevada calidad.
Se esfuerzan por hacerte sentir como en casa y aceptan perritos “educados” si les avisas previamente para hacer tu reserva.
Volveremos siempre, un 10!
