Upper Giri Monument

Upper Giri Fort is a 2nd to 5th century Buddhist fort located in the village of Giri. The construction techniquused in this monument is small diaper which was quite common in 2nd to 5th century AD and later. The glen of Giri is located 8 km north-east of Taxila, at the foot of Margalla hills. It is approached through a rough torrent bed near two villages named Khurram Gujar and Khurram Paracha. There are remains of two monasteries and stupas, one on the top of the hill and other below it. The upper monument is a fort and a Buddhist Stupa. The lower one is a Buddhist Monastery. The ramains of Giri fort are perched on the hill top. The fort was built in 2nd-5th century by the Buddhist monks. Later, it was used by Sultan Masud, son of Sultan Mahmud of Gazni. Masud, who ruled for next 10 years, blinded and imprisoned his younger twin brother and heir nominated Muhammad. In 1040 AD, Masud, upon losing the Battle of Dandanaqan at Merv, Central Turkemenistan was overthrown from his throne by his troops and was imprisoned and later murdered on orders of Mohammad’s son Ahmed. The location of his prison and death is said to be Giri Fort, Taxila, Pakistan.

Old history in this place. Sound less amazing place

Not worth visiting. Dry Hills, nothing special. There was a small lake near it which is now dry. If you're planning to visit this place for refreshment, I don't recommend you to do so but still you can give it a visit for hiking, although the hiking track isn't so good
