My favorite place in Pakistan (so far). The tomb of Javindi Bibi in the city of Uch. This place is not a UNESCO recognized site yet, but it’s on the proposed list and in my opinion should definitely be included.
The city of Uch was founded by Alexander the Great and known to the locals as Uch Sharif - a place steeped in shrine culture.

Magnificent ensemble of old mausoleums. One of the most understated and little-known monuments anywhere in the world. Worth making an effort to come here. And yes, not to mention that the ancient name was Alexandria on the Indus.

The tomb of Bibi Jiwandi is located in Ouch Sharif, the oldest city of Pakistan. If I say that this tomb is present in the oldest city of the world, it will not be wrong to say. Och Sharif used to be the capital at one time. Alexander the Great, Muhammad bin Qasim and many such great conquerors conquered and ruled this city. It is well known about Och Sharif that there are more than one lakh Wali of Allah and it is right to say that. The tomb of Bibi Jeevandi is located at the highest point of the city. Tomb of Bibi Jeevandi around the worldHas a reputation. People from all over the world who are known for tourism must visit this tomb. There is a huge garden in front of the tomb of Bibi Jeevandi, the view of the sunset over this garden is very attractive and beautiful. If anyone is reading this review of mine, I suggest them to visit Och Sharif and learn about the thousands of years old tomb and history. Contact me on Instagram if you need any information or help. @KashifKamla

Marvel at the historical splendour showcased in this breathtaking photo of the Tomb of Bibi Jaiwindi, an esteemed UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in Pakistan's Punjab province. Built in 1493 by an Iranian prince, this architectural marvel epitomizes cultural heritage and enduring craftsmanship.
Unfortunately, the passage of time and environmental factors have taken their toll, leaving only half of the original structure standing today.

The Tomb of Bibi Jawindi is one of the five monuments in Uch Sharif, Punjab, Pakistan, that are on the tentative list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Dating back to the 15th century, the shrine was built in the spirit of the historical Sufi premier Bibi Jawindi of the Suhrawardiyyah order, a strictly hegemonistic Sunni school of theosophical thought which puts particular emphasis on the Shafi’i school of classical jurisprudence in the context of its interpretation of the Sharia. Jaw Indo was great-granddaughter to Jahaniyan Jahangasht, a famous Sufi saint in his own right.

The site is located in the south-west corner of Uch, a historical city founded by Alexander the Great, in the Bahawalpr state and Punjab province of Pakistan. Uch, locally known as Uch Sharif, is known as the home of the "shrine culture" because of its cultural significance and the presence of several monuments and shrines.

Built of glazed bricks on an octagonal base with turrets on each of its eight corners, the tomb of Bibi Jawindi is considered one of the most ornate monuments in Uch. The exterior of the building has three tiers with the top one supporting a dome, while the interior is circular due to thick angled walls rising up two stories. Both the interior and exterior of the building are richly decorated with Islamic scriptures, carved timber, and bright blue and glazed white mosaic tiles. The base tier is supported by the eight tapering turrets in each corner. The compound enclosing the shrine is preserved in its original desert-like conditions and is mostly covered with cemented graves. The surrounding area is covered with green vegetation due to a network of river tributaries and canals crossing the area.

Over the centuries, the tomb has badly disintegrated as a result of environmental conditions, and during torrential floods in 1817 half of the structure was washed away. Only half of the structure remains today. In 1999, the Conservation and Rehabilitation Center of Pakistan invited international bodies and city officials to work on the conservation of the site. However, because of humidity, salt infiltration, and erosion the complex monuments are still crumbling. Inappropriate methods of repair have further damaged the complex. The World Monuments Fund placed the structure on their Watch in 1998, 2000, and 2002 to gather international attention and obtained grants to conserve the tombs.

Must visit if you are passing through or close to Uch Sharif. Newly carpeted roads lead directly to the tomb which is being renovated these days which is going to take a while. Be careful while visiting the insides of the tombs and mazars

Love to visit historical places. Really disappointed from administration because this tomb is under maintenance since many years but still no progress. They are just eating fund without spending a single penny on tomb

It is worth making a small visit to Uch Sharif or (Uch Shareef), a very ancient place which still has some beautiful mosques and tombs. Its great period of glory came in the 13th century, when it was together with multan, a center of political and cultural activites. The architecture of the mausoleums and mosques still standing in uch is refreshing and attractive, reflecting a central Asian influence, with superb blue and white glazed tiles, not similar to those in multan and Bahawalpur. Sadly many of the tombs are in poor condition.

Uch has been associated by some authorities with one of the many Alexandrias built by Alexander on his way down the indus in 325 Bc. Arrian, the military historian writing in 2nd century AD, records that ‘Alexander ordered a city to built at the confluence of the two rivers, imagining that by the advantage of such a situation, it would become rich and prosperous’. The of this city sent to Alexander 100 brave and noble men as hostages besides 500 war chariots with their drivers and horses fully caparisoned. Alexander was so touched by this gesture that he returned the hostages, but not the chariots.

In the 7th century Uch was part of kingdom of the barhmin ruler chach (who may or may not have invented chess), and then fell to the Arab invader Muhammad Bin Qasim in 712 after a siege of seven days. Five centuries later came its period of glory as a great religious center.

The tombs are either square or domed. The tomb of Bibi Jawindi is the most complete, octagonal in shape and with every inch decorated with faience blue and white tiles. The later tomb of Jaial Surkh Bukhari is unusual in that it has a superb wooden roof painted in lacquer, perdominantly red and blue. The tomb of Baha’al Halim has horizontal stripes of blue and white faience tiles, although little of it remains.

From Uch you can cross the confluence of the sutlej and chenab river to Alipur and then turn north for Muzaffargarh. Here you have to find the road to the east to cross the chenab river again to take you to Multan or you can turn south-east and rejoin the main road to Bahawalpur.

Religious people from all over the Pakistan often visit Uch Sharif

Undoubtedly one of the most historical sites in the country. The old architecture was a treat but unfortunately it was sad to see the condition of the people in utmost misery. The social gap was extreme, the rich are as rich as they could be while the poor are living hand to mouth. Our guide to the region didn’t even have shoes to wear. Tourism can be promoted in the region, to be used for the welfare of the region but instead, the beneficiaries here are the elite as well.

The Tomb of Bibi Jawindi is a beautiful and serene place, with stunning blue and white tiles. It is worth a visit if you are in the Uch Sharif area.

Here are some additional details that I would include in the review:

The tomb is one of the five monuments in Uch Sharif that are on the tentative list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

It was built in the 14th century by Bibi Jawindi, a woman who was known for her piety.

The tomb is made of red brick and white marble, and is decorated with beautiful blue and white tiles.

The tomb is located in a peaceful setting, and is a great place to relax and reflect.
