Makli Necropolis near Thatta - UNESCO site. The largest Muslim burial ground in the world - super impressive place. Could have spent all day wandering around and soaking it up but it was a thousand degrees outside and having to wear long pants had me overheating. I would recommend a few hours here. It's a stunning location and the tombs are very well preserved.

It’s extremely hot in June so he did a great job trying to keep us in shaded areas as much as possible. Also, it was nice to be able to walk around freely in a lot of the areas. We even got access to parts of the Necropolis that were closed off to other guests. He was very knowledgeable and it’s always interesting to hear fun facts that you can’t pick up easily in a google search. I would definitely recommend this tour if you have time and want to see something outside of the city center.

Makli Necropolis - more than 600 years old and world's largest cemetery and also prominent UNISCO World Heritage Site. Its really sad that this place seems very underrated. Very less people visit this place. However as being historic place this should be more highlight. The place shows rich culture of sindhi culture.

The place is safe for families. Also there are very good hotel facilities by government. Anyone can stay there.

Just a a few weeks ago, we visited the world's largest graveyard which has approx one million graves in it, with the team of Sindh Tourism Development corporation team.
I visited this historical graveyard some years ago, but by the great efforts of the tourism department, now the place is changed and you can visit it by the 10 seaters electric car (just like a golf car) in just 2000 Rs per Car for one hour trip. They will let you visit almost the whole graveyard in 30 minutes tour.
If someone have ♿ different abilities, they have arrangements to pick him/her from their vehicle directly to their electric car for Makli Qabristan trip.
We visited some of the famous and historical tombs, like Isa Khan Tarkhan, Jam Nizam, Deewan's tomb and many others.

The place should have been preserved but now that it's one of the UNESCO heritage site i think they will for future. Some beautifully decorated tombs can be seen in the necropolis. Detailed artwork and quranic verses on graves are so beautiful.

Pleasantly surprised, good day trip if you're into historical sights. Lots of things to see and very nice staff. Names of staff in picture: Ashraf (left): shows you around the mausoleums, Farman Ali (middle): man's the tourist centre outside, and Mehmood (right): drives the buggy.

The Necropolis of Makli is one of the famous places among the venues declared as cultural heritage. This place is not a picnic spot but a trip down the lane of our Mogul history. If you read the information boards in front of each tomb you will realize how things were during the Mogul dynasty. How one Mogul emperor ordered murders of the whole families including the children. The rivalry and rebellion is clearly visible through the tombs of each family member buried there. It is the world's largest graveyard and also a part of UNESCO World Heritage. The tombs are standing marvels of this regions great architecture. The finesse of calligraphy on the graves and the walls of these tombs speaks the expertise of those who who carved them.

I wasn't able to go through the whole place as it is huge. Visiting Makli reminded me of my trip to Moen Jo Daro where I realized how everything will perish be it strong castles or humans of high casts and breed. I believe, we should reconnect with our heritage and history and visit such places. We should take our children to such cultural places of our country to help them understand our civilization and belonging. I'm glad I visited Makli cause I learned about the history of the place and the people who are buried there. In fact, there is still more to learn. I would recommend that you should plan a day trip to Thatta making three stop-overs: Shah Jahan Mosque (Thatta), The Necropolis of Makli and any of the three lakes (Haleji, Hadero or Keenjhar).

If you are travelling from Karachi to Thatta, it should take you about 2 hours to reach to this place through National Highway.

Great architecture of tombs and graves of whatever is left of them. Must visit place for people who are curious about history and civilisations. Rs 50 parking fee and around Rs 200-500 for a horse cart or a buggy vans. Do take them as kids will be tired of walking. No shops inside. Many beggars around.

The Great Makli Necropolis, Thatta. A relic of the Mughal Empire of India, this cemetery spans 6 square smiles, with over half a million graves from 14th to 18th centuries AD. Most graves are Mughal royal subjects and governors based in Thatta back in their time. There is a lot to see in such a huge space, so it is best to book a tour bus located outside to explore the place effectively.

The capital of three successive dynasties and later ruled by the Mughal emperors of Delhi, Thatta was constantly embellished from the 14th to the 18th century. The remains of the city and its necropolis provide a unique view of civilization in Sindh. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Makli Necropolis and the drive to and from Karachi. Locals were very friendly and we were asked to be in lots of selfies. A lovely outing. (Remember to take your passport as Intel/security require details of international tourists!) we stayed about two hours.
