Break Neck Ridge

Breakneck Ridge is located at Kananga, Leyte, Philippines

On the road from Limon to Ormoc, the "Japanese of the 1st Division had chosen a formidable natural defense line. For three miles the road wound through hairpin turns and over convoluted ridges. Steep razor-back spurs, topped by rocky knobs, branched off in every direction, commanding almost every approach. Tall, knife-edged cogon grass covered the open slopes, and trees filled the valleys and ravines. During the hiatus in the fighting, the Japanese dug in on the ridges and, with their usual skill at exploiting terrain, turned the positions into a formidable bastion."

I remember when I was a child. Many of the Japanese visits this place to put incense and food to honor their ancestors. They also give foods and some things like cigarettes, towel toothbrush and many more to the residents of the area, who have seen the practice. I was always on that place and we really love seeing them visited our place..

Hoping that the place will be reconstructed again

Historical place

This important site in the war to retake the Philippines from the Japanese forces is sadly neglected.
Typhoon Ursala blew down the worn out sign and a tree fell and blocks the stairs.
Not sure who is suppose to take care of this site but plan to find out.
