Audible Illusions Home Theater & Pro Audio

The JL Audio D108's are a game changer, and I would like to tell you more about it later, but first, let me tell you more about the background of the story.

After having been an headphone enthusiast for quite a while, i have gotten used to hearing full range sound when listening to music. And this became one of the things that i keep looking for when i listen to speakers. And the only time that i was able to hear this level of full range presentation was with the prohibitively expensive YG acoustics Vantage system in one of the dealers.

With my floorstander speakers the ProAc DT8, I have gotten pretty close to 'full range', but it isnt quite the experience that i hoped it would be. I have since sold off my floor standing speakers, and currently anticipating the arrival of a new pair.

During this period of transition, I decided to swap in my ProAc Tablette 10 Signatures, which are evidently much smaller speakers. Thus, could not physically be expected to present a full range sound while having exceptional soundstage and imaging capabilities.

So I started my search for a subwoofer to add to my system, thinking that it would be a great addition to my current system and possibly enhancing my future system as well. And upon the recommendation of a friend, i paid Audible Illusions a visit to see if a pair of JL audio subs would be a good match with my system.

When i finally took home the JL Audio Subs, i was slightly anxious that i wouldnt be able to set them up properly, or it would make the whole system slow or too bassy.

Fortunately, integrating the tab 10 sigs with the JL audio D108's was a breeze. Being careful to keep the bass levels down and having a proper cross over point, it didnt sound like there was a subwoofer in the room. Instead, there was an illusion of having a pair of Tab 10 sigs that are capable of full range sound.

However, the most surprising thing about adding the pair of D108's is the larger soundscape that this system is capable of, something that i didn't even experience with my DT8 floorstanders! And while the Tab 10 sigs are very capable with imaging, adding the subwoofers further enhanced the precision and placement of the images within the soundscape.

I used to hear that integrating subwoofers with small speakers, particularly highly capable and detailed small speakers, would be difficult because the larger subwoofer drivers would be too slow to keep up? But this hasn't been the case with JL Audio's entry level D108, which easily kept up with the highly capable ProAc Tablette 10 signature.
