It was tough but worth it. We are in our 50s, and made it to the top in about 1.5hrs. Most of it was a long slow assent. Last 30 mins were steap but you just go very slow. Altitude makes you tired very quickly, little bit of a headache. Very long drive to get there. Top was cold and windy with a few hundred people there at any one time.

The trip was absolutely incredible! It was filled with unforgettable moments. We went with a private tour because we knew we couldn’t handle the high altitudes, and it was such a smart decision. Our tour guide and driver were total rockstars, providing us with attentive care and hospitality throughout the entire journey. Even when I experienced altitude sickness during the climb, our guide's unwavering enthusiasm and support kept us going. Despite the language barrier, the locals were incredibly friendly, making us feel welcomed and appreciated. And let me tell you, the rainbow mountain was absolutely breathtaking! Its beauty left us in awe. This entire experience surpassed our expectations and holds a special place in our hearts.

This is a relatively new tourist attraction in Peru. It is at extreme altitude 17,060. Feet or 5200 meters. While magnificent many pictures are overly adjusted for color. Tours out of Cuzco are very much available at reasonable costs. It has become a very popular tourist spot. I would recommend a day or two adjustment in the Cuzco area before going on up to 17,000+ feet. Also if there is ever a rainstorm these colors do become much brighter and really pop.

Tourist access requires a two-hour drive from Cusco, and a walk of about 5-kilometer (3.1 mi) or three-and-a-half-hour drive through Pitumarca and one-half-kilometre (0.31 mi) a steep walk (1-1.5 hours) to the hill. As of 2019, no robust methods of transportation to Vinicunca have been developed to accommodate travelers, as it requires passage through a valley.

It is located on the road to the Ausangate mountain, in the Andes of Peru, in the Cusco Region, between the districts of Cusipata, province of Quispicanchi, Pitumarca, and the province of Canchis.

In the middle of the 2010s, mass tourism became attracted by the mountains' series of stripes of various colors. This due to its mineralogical composition present on the slopes and summits. The mountain was covered by glacier caps that have melted recently due to global warming.

The reason why these colors have formed is because of ice that used to cover the area, according to HuffPo. When it started to melt, the water mixed with minerals in the ground, turning the earth into the many colors. Red areas are due to rust mixtures, yellows are due to iron sulphide, purples are from goethite or oxidized limonite, and the greens come from chlorite.
