Op deze plek lag rond 1300 de Malderburcht. Een motteburcht, vandaar de naam van het paadje richting het kanaal.
De houten burcht raakte aan het einde van de 13e eeuw al in verval en werd gesloopt.
Begin 1900 waren de grachten nog gevuld en was de vorm van een burcht nog herkenbaar.
Sinds de egalisatie in 1930, is alleen op een luchtfoto nog iets van de contouren te zien.
