Taveerne De Twaalf Balcken

My personal highlight during my stay on Texel. Dark ambient, amazing food, super friendly, young and quick staff, and overall a great time. As you can see in the pictures, food was plenty and the spare ribs rank really high among my favourites ever. But it was the tomato soup that really won my heart. The staff seems to be very happy to chat and get along with their costumers which was really nice to see.
If I ever return to Texel, this will be the place to eat!

A Tavern style restaurant in a shopping area (you have to know it :-)) in Den Burg Texel which gives you the homey feeling on the spot. The service is excellent very friendly and passionate to give you a great evening. We had the cheese fondue this time with some surprising dips ideas. Make sure you reserve a table on time, a lot of locals know their existence!

The lamb dishes are just fantastic! Perfect coooked! Fully of flavor! Very friendly staffs and affordable prices. Our first choice in town.

We had the potato and leek soup and asparagus with local lamb and potatoes. Also tried the local texel gin but didn’t find it as per our palette as it was on the sweeter side. The other two dishes were really good and the ambience of the place too was quite lively, it’s also one of the few places open and serving food till late. A must go to place for sure.

Had a good experience. The lamb dishes we had were really good (stew & lamb racks). Great selection of beers. Friendly service.

Well worth the train, ferry and bike ride from Amsterdam! Excellent service, wonderful menu. Was not disappointed with their lamb offerings! We will be coming back!

This is a fantastic place to eat and drink on Texel! I got a craft tripel bier and the two pieces of lamb. The quality of the meat is sensational. Not to mention the service that's been exceptional as well. The atmosphere is awesome and there seems to be lots of locals coming here. So please 1 tourist at the time, don't ruin the mood ahah
This is my best culinary experience so far in the Netherlands. It'll be hard to beat!

A real treat. Best lamb in Holland. Really nice fibe and friendly helpfull staff. Ill recommend to anyone.

we was in holiday on texel and found this Restaurant.
everbody was so nice and friendly. food and drinks are nice and the design looks like an irish pub..
glutenfree options on the list,especially cheesefondue with gf bread.

Great restaurant with a huge selection of beers and a delicious selection of meals.

We decided to spontaneously visit De Twaalf Balcken at around 18h without reservations and the staff still managed to get us a table for 4 person until 20h.
Staff was really friendly and made us feel welcome.
We ordered some onion and tomato soups, as well as the delicious ribs (smoked & marinaded) and lamb stew. It was truly delicious and an explosion for our taste buds.

We can highly recommend to visit De Twaalf Balcken and will be coming back the next time we're visiting Texel. This time with reservations... just to be sure.

Great atmosphere and lots of different beers to choose from. Didn’t have dinner here but the meals that were served looked simple yet very tasty. I was told the meat dishes here are very good.

If you are looking for quality spare ribs, I can recommend this Taveerne. Right now they only serve the ribs in the weekend.

The ribs are very tasty and for a good price. The crew is friendly which adds to the positive experience. The ribs come with fries (tasty), homemade sauces (very tasty) and salad (not so tasty).

Due to corona rules, they currently only offer takeout.

I found other meat on the menu less good than the ribs.

Super good food, nice place with good vibe. If you want to eat here, you would better book it in advanced, especially during summer months when Texel is busy with tourists
