Museum Sjoel Elburg

I have come to Elburg and especially this museum each time I am near. History is as breathtaking as the views. It's best to know a local! The basement has never been open before! It was so amazing!

It is for sure one of the places you should visit in Elburg. Don't forget to start with the movie about the historical facts of the Jewish residents of this picturesque city and in common from the 13th century until world war II in the Netherlands. Shalom 🙏

Very interesting museum about Jewish life in Elburg before WW2.

Friends suggested this visit because I love and support Jewish people and the nation of Israel. I'm very interested to learn about the Diaspora and life among Jewish communities outside of the Land of Promise. Excellent standard of film and exhibits and it was fascinating to have the history of Jewush families laid out, modelled and depicted within a synagogue. I wish I had allowed a full afternoon visit of 2-3 hours. Most of the museum is bilingual, Dutch / English. Thank you to all who have honoured the Jews in this way. We owe a debt to them for our salvation!

One of the best kept renaissance fortifications in the Netherlands is Elburg ('Old Fortress'). At the end of the 19th century the Jews of Elburg acquired a building inside the fortress and turned it into a synagogue. This building has now been reverted into a lovely museum with yearly renewed expositions. The Jews of Elburg were revered by the local population. Witness of this fact is the Jewish cemetery, which is located on the rampart opposite the St Nicholas church. Next to the Synagogue museum there exists a wonderful Elburg museum, which is located inside a former medieval monastery and an Organ museum, which is located inside a Renaissance town castle.

Sadly, the building is emptied of all Jewish attributes, but the exhibit was very well done and informative.

It was so sad to learn what had happened to the Jews of Elburg. Very hard experience. As a whole, Elburg is such a magical place, combining really old restorated town, with great food and designed stores, nice people, great second hand stores ,lovely places to take a walk. We went there on our last day and it was really so good

Very interesting place with a great history! Extremely nice people!! I wish more of the explanations were in English. If you go there, go see the Jewish semetery near by.

Very educational and historical

Indrukwekkend museum dat is gevestigd in de oude joodse synagoge. Het is niet groot en er zijn wat verhalen verteld over de joodse gezinnen die in Elburg hebben gewoond.

Er is van alles te lezen, zien en luisteren over het jodendom en hoe de joodse mensen leefden.
Ook ingrijpende verhalen rondom 1940-1945.

Het bezoeken van de joodse begraafplaats is mooi om ook even gezien te hebben..

Bijzonder museum, compact maar met veel feiren en voorwerpen uit de Joodse cultuur. Veel persoonlijke verhalen die je raken. Ook leuk kinderprogramma met speurtocht. Bezoek ook de Joodse begraafplaats en de onderduikadressen verderop in Elburg.

Heel fijn museum waar je warm wordt ontvangen en met een enorm goede inhoudelijke tentoonstelling over het leven van joden in Nederland. Een bezoek meer dan waard.

Een prachtig klein en intiem museum, met een aangrijpend verhaal over de joodse gemeenschap in Elburg. Gevestigd in een voormalige synagoge.

Heel intrigerend en respectvol. Men heeft hier in de bewaarde originele synagoge een museum ingericht wat elk detail van de Joodse gemeenschap in Elburg (maar ook daarbuiten) toelicht. Er is een doorlopende film, en veel documentatie. Tevens heeft men er alles aan gedaan om ook mensen die in een rolstoel het museum willen bezoeken probleemloos er doorheen te laten gaan, door op alle twee de niveaus rolstoelliften aan te brengen. Prima!

Verrassend mooi synagoge. Je krijgt een goede indruk van het vooroorlogs Joodse leven in Elburg. Zeer eigentijds met audio-visuele presentaties.

Bijzonder mooi ingericht museum op een prachtige locatie en met zeer gemotiveerde een aardige vrijwilligers. Het verhaal over de achtergrond is echter verdrietig en zeer aangrijpend.

Het joodse leven komt daar weer helemaal tot leven. Zeer de moeite waard om dat museum te bezoeken.
