Op de plaats van slot Huize Rijs is een fraaie tuin aangelegd. Huize Rijs werd vroeger bewoont door de adellijke familie van Swinderen. In 1937 werd het het afgebroken. De tuin raakte daarna in verval. It Fryske Gea nam de tuin van gemeente over en heeft de herinrichting verzorgt. De tuin is nu voor het publiek opengesteld. Ids Willemsma heeft de monumentale toegangspoort gemaakt.
