No wonder this technical wonder is on the UNESCO list! 100 years young, from coal- to diesel- to McDonalds recycled grease-fired, and still in it's prime! Still able to assist in the water management of the Northern provinces. Warmly recommended.

Have visited it before, now managed to get tickets when it was active helping to drain the province of Fryslan. Very impressive, great tourguide, really busy but amazing. When you love old mechanics and industrial engineering this is a must "see it working"
experience for sure !

Very impressive and still operational (on stand-by for emergencies). It's run once a year to train staff but even without it running it is a magnificent industrial monument of Dutch civil engineering.

It was very nice to see how massive this pumping station is. The guide was enthousiastic and explained us everything in a very nice way. Its amazing to see that this pump is still functional to day.

Fantastic opportunity to visit the world’s largest steam pumping station still in operation.

The machinery still looks like new and is obviously lovingly cared for.

Friendly and knowledgeable guides.

Can be seen in steam during the winter months, but still worthwhile visiting in the summer.

Unesco World Heritage site and therefore very well maintained. It's an old steam driven water pump that still works nowadays if needed.

Online reservation was not really needed in advance (the lady was even surprised it existed). So, this is a very nice area with a shop, interactive museum at the newly built visitor center, panoramic cafe, cinema room, and of course the magnificent and shiny steam station itself. It takes around 30-40 minutes co completely explore the exposition with the movies in the visitor center on yourself + 50-60 minutes to explore the station itself with the guide tour (only guided is allowed to enter). There was a person available (they are volunteers, not paid) to guide me in English almost immediately when I arrived, but it was a slow day. 9 eur ticket all included.
Surprisingly striking place given its historical importance, and would be interesting for visitors of any background.

Interesting place, impressive display of architecture and technology; the tour guides are very knowledgeable and willing to share their knowledge and make the visitor understand difficult concepts for the common folk with real examples, their service is beyond amazing. 10 stars for all the staff we had the pleasure to meet. Even one of their guides took the time to come sit down with us while enjoying a coffee and tell us facts about the region and his own life experiences. Getting to know people is the most amazing experience one can get.

Simply great! The place is spectacular for itself, to start with. There is an interactive section (unfortunately the explanations are only in Dutch, but you can “guess” a lot) where you can also take pictures of yourself as the old director of the plant or as a worker… funny! You can also watch a short, informative and at the same time entertaining movie. We found a lovely guide (a volunteer, I’m so sorry I forgot to ask his name because he is definitely worth a mention) who explained everything in German for us. The right address for lovers of (old) technology and industrial monuments!
