Lagos State House of Assembly

This state legislature of Lagos State, is beautiful place, with nice streets and lovely driveways. It is situated along Governor's Avenue in the Lagos state capital, Ikeja. The House of Assembly is currently under the All Progressives Congress political party which is the current ruling party in Lagos State. There have been nine different house of assemblies, the very first one was inaugurated 1979 and the present one was inaugurated 2019. There are forty members of the House of Assembly, two represent one of the twenty various local government areas in Lagos.
The purpose of the House of Assembly is to Provide information on the scope of responsibilities, services and commitment for the entire people of Lagos State. Their vision is to be The leading light and pathfinder for Nigerian legislatures. Their mission is to make laws that will ensure good governance, representing the will of Lagosians and in the process ensuring judicious use of the resources of the state in order for Lagos residents to receive maximum benefit.
The Lagos State House of Assembly was created to provide certain services for the good of Lagos state. Each service has various standards that must be met; for example, whenever the appropriation of a bill is passed on to the house they must ensure that estimates are critically analysed and resources are distributed in such a way those in need are put in priority. They must also ensure that the money budgeted is efficiently utilized judiciously as intended. When it comes to law making, the House of Assembly must ensure the laws are passed with the positive interest of Lagosians at heart. The laws must also be practical and implementable over a long period of time. In the case of legitimizing of a political candidate for office the House of Assembly must pick an individual who is well qualified and possesses the skills needed for the position. Members of the public are allowed to express their opinions of this candidate in the House of Assembly form petitions and all these petitions must be read and put into consideration before appointing the candidate for a public office. When members of the public send in petitions to the House of Assembly regarding various issues, the Committee Secretary of the House of Assembly is given a 48-hour limit to respond to these petitions leaving behind his name, position and contact information. Formal petitions will receive responses within two weeks of the day it was issued.

It is interesting to visit this place, had a meeting here with other executives of my esteemed association, the lawns were well catered for and the atmosphere is totally serene. But I still have my reservations about some individuals in government.

A well-organised Government establishment saddled with the responsiblity of making laws that help the Government of Lagos State serve the people better. The Lagos State House of Assembly is a very beautiful and well-managed work environment housed in a maginificient L-Shape 4-storey buiding with state-of-the art facilities surrounded by a spacious premises covered largely by a lush green lawn. The House is currently in its 8th Assembly (as at the time of writing this review,July 2016) and is headed by Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, a ranking lawmaker and thoroughbred political leader who has performed excellently since his assumption of office as Honourable Speaker in June 2015. Another notable Lawmaker in the Assembly of 40 is Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu,( a.k.a ARK), born on 29th March, 1983, he is the youngest Parliamentarian in the current Assembly. He has Sponsored Two (2) Executive Bills, move some motions and implemented women and youth related economic empowerement schemes in Ikeja Constiuency 2 which he represents. Hon. Kasunmu is very popular among the people of Ikeja, Ogba, Ojodu and beyond.

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa was again unanimously reelected as SPEAKER by colleagues on June 7, 2019 as result of his 5-Star performance as the Speaker of the 8th Assembly.
Hon. Kasunmu has relinquished the title of "youngest Lawmaker" to Hon. Ajani, a newly elected lawmaker who is younger than him.

Grandiose, beautiful, quiet, serene, and imposing edifice. This place plays host to the state law makers everyday. From 50meters within touching distance one can feel the change in atmosphere, and ambience. The peace that pervades this environment is almost unbelievable considering the chaotic, noisy and very busy nature of the Lagos metropolis..

Lagos state house of Assembly is the seat of law making arm of the state government. The lawmakers are 40 in number representing the 20 local government of Lagos state.
