The signature salted chicken was the star of the meal! it look so unassuming but don’t be tricked by it - the meat was super tender even for the breast meat and what was surprising was that the herbs and saltiness taste was infused into the meat without overpowering it. A dish that was perfectly done! The sauce that came with it was good too minus the chilli sauce which i felt could be better.
The other dish was the steam luffa 丝瓜 with vermicelli and garlic - another unassuming dish but was packed full with flavors! this is the first time i’ve eaten it done this way!
The fried tofu was crisp on the outside n soft on the inside. I couldn’t tell what’s the dipping sauce but there seems to be a light tinge of salted egg. love this dish too!
the pao fan was good but the other dishes stood out way too well :) the seafood soup seems to be lacking a 鲜 taste to me.
Overall will highly recommend this place!

If you are in JB and want to try new foods, this Sun Gourmet restaurant is the place to go - Yuan Yang Rice (taste like fried crispy rice porridge) with options of seafood or chicken flavoured broth. The tofu is very good but the ‘black hairy’ pork is not to my liking (though there’s no hairs on the pork!). The fried crispy seaweed is a must to order!

Zero disappointment, high rating by google reviews. The scallop is big and fresh. Very special dishes.

Their staff service and attitude is good. The food also not bad. Some dishes can give you some wow taste. The place looks clean but the air conditioning is a bit hot. Even got 4 cassette air conditioning but still feel hot.

THE PAO FAN IS THE BEST IN THE AREA!!!! Must definitely eat the 小龙虾泡饭 and the charcoal tofu with salted egg sauce
Super super super yummy :) LOVE IT!!!!!

Finally got to try the food here and with no regrets. I loved all the food ESPECIALLY the PaoFan which is flavorful and ingredients are sufficient. Most importantly the price is reasonable too. The service is good too, served by a young man (tall with spectacle) forgot to ask for his name, very good service. I will definitely be back again!

Was tempted to try this after seeing alot of their menu looks so different from the typical Chinese food zi char kind.
The pricing were also reasonable (and as usual, cheap for Sporean context).
We had the (1) Seafood poached rice (泡饭) $26+1.80, (2) The chilli mini lobster with fried mantou $39.90, (3) Fried White bait $24 (白饭鱼) and Omelette with cai po $10.
First.. the poach rice, which usually isn't my kind of food but it was GOOD! The broth was the best I had and it goes so well with the rice. There were 2 big and fresh prawns inside as well. The scallops were kinda of a miss but overall still great.
The mini lobsters were decent... Chilli sauce is very much like the chilla crab style in spore. It has Abit of dried shrimps if I am not wrong and therefore is quite fragrant. The 4 pieces of lobsters were half big and half small but for the price, guess it's alright.
The omelette was strangely good too... Despite being a simple dish. For the price, it's kind of a bargain.
And finally the white bait, although good but it came soooo late that we were alrdy full and had to takeover most of it. The salt and pepper toppings on it were really good and went well with the fish. It's good but way way too expensive. I mean if the poached rice is 27.80 and this small plate of fish (more like a starter) is 24, then not worth it at all.
Their service was good too and enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Only thing was the waiter suggested for us to order the medium poached rice instead, which fortunately we didn't. The small bowl was alrdy big enough for the 2 of us and we couldn't even finish all the food. Imagine having the bigger size one.... So they should be trained to suggest appropriately, instead of just trying to upsell us?
Overall, this is a 8.5 out of 10. Will definitely be back again and as an encouragement, they deserve a 5 stars here.

A piping hot and hearty seafood broth that checks off my checklist for an excellent broth. The seafood paofan was seriously good. It was thick and slightly creamy, and when it was paired with crispy rice, it was truly heavenly. Seafood was very generous too. Unfortunately, the paofan will expand and soften in the broth if you leave it for too long in the soup. It'll be nice if the paofan can be given separately.
The crispy fish skin and prawn paste chicken were both unexpectedly good too. There was this unknown seasoning that we couldn't identify for the crispy fish skin, but it elevated the taste to another level. The prawn paste coating on the chicken was on point, and we could even smell it! Well done in all aspects.
The drinks were a huge let down. The portion was small, and the luohanguo and sugarcane tasted weird.
Overall, this is definitely one of my top restaurants that sells good broths!

I always come here for a satisfying meal each time in JB. We love the 泡饭 with seafood broth option very much. Another signature dish to order is the Kampung Salted Chicken - half a chicken is just enough for 3-4 people to share (with other dishes too). Highly recommend the Sweet & Sour Pork on Ice Cubes too.

An excellent set meal here.
Hakka chicken is one of their signatures. Very flavorful and tender to the bite. The minced ginger is perfect with the dish but the chili taste out of place.
Charcoal beancurd was a stunner here. The soy bean taste was evident and it came piping hot. The sauce was another winner.
Lotus root stuffed with minced meat and water chestnuts was a tad too oily but I was won by the crunch and flavor.
Lobster Pao Fan is their key highlight. We opted for the superior stock. Lighter tasting with fish stock as base.
An assortment of seafood and meats but the main is their freshwater lobsters. More similar to crayfish size, they offer 4 halves.
The scallop with shell was excellent too. I do not get much of the deep fried rice which supposed to give it the crunch.
Overall a good experience. Even during late afternoon, a consistent crowd is observed

Came to try something that i never try before, Yuan Yamg Rice 泡饭. Something comfort food, simple yet make it so delicous. Im not here because its affordable, im here becuase of its different variety. Pictures taken will speak for itself. Came before 5pm before the dinner crowd comes.

Here is worth the wait. The signature seafood yuan yang rice is a must order and is the best dish here. Salted Kampung chicken is not bad but however the crispy stuffed fish fillet is so so. The iced chrysanthemum and ginseng tea is very refreshing. The only complaint is that it is a small setup and tables are limited.
Making reservation is a must if not have to usually wait in excess of an hour. If bill exceed 100 RM can use credit card.

Food was great - tried the pao fan with golden superior stock, charcoal beancurd with handmade fish curd as well as the sweet and sour pork on ice cubes. Together with a drink and two dessert, bill came up to ~rm90 (~sgd27).
Paofan was good! We were told by the staff that the small size could only feed one, but we were lucky that we didn’t heed her advice! It was more than enough for two pax, especially with the other dishes we ordered.
Charcoal beancurd with fish curd was really nice and unique.
Sweet and sour pork on ice cubes had a great crunch, but nothing particularly unique as you could find this elsewhere too.
Really enjoyed ourselves here and will definitely come back again!

The quality of the food and the level of service both exceeded my expectations. Fantastic!😍

Ordered the signature 黄金Pao fan, charcoal tofu and sweet and sour pork which all tasted great. Food was served fast after ordering despite visiting during the peak dinner timing. One suggestion for improvement would be to proportion the paofan soup and rice evenly, in the small size that we ordered there were very little grains but 90% filled with soup hence not filling. But overall great experience and will return to try other dishes.

This is always one of the restaurant my wife and i will choose to go. I really love their food, always choose to add extra RM2 for the seafood soup.
The only problem i have with the restaurant is, lack of parking, lack of seat in the restaurant. I wish they could open few more branches.

Fantastic experience at the restaurant. 泡饭 with seafood soup base (they also had an option of chicken soup base) was rich and delicious. Side dishes like the salted egg lotus root, charcoal tofu and 帝皇庙 were also very tasty. Side dishes portion (except for 帝皇庙) is smaller than what you normally get at zhichar places, just nice for about 3-4 people to taste test. Blueberry sauce pork was not our favourite, but might interest someone who likes the sweet-sour taste palette. Similar to sweet & sour sauce styled pork, but with a twist.
Shout out to serving staff Guan Yu who was very friendly and patient, and helped recommend portions based on our group size.

Pao fan not bad. We tried the rm60 set for 2 pax. Very full. Thank god the sze chuan fried chicken is not spicy. Vegetable is very fresh. In my opinion vegetable pricing abit high.
Our soup added rm2.50 for the golden seafood soup base also.
