Love this traditional dish. It’s really amazing. The staff will demonstrate customers how they cook the stone soup. They also explained the history to us. The stone soup is very delicious. The broth is special. I like adding limes into the soup. Shrimp and fish are fresh, with to try this traditional Oaxaca food!

Very cute restaurant and nice staff! Just be careful they could be closing before the 7pm listed on the listing. We order the traditional caldo de piedra and loved it, also had Tlayuda with Tasajo and quesadillas really good and traditionally craft from beginning to hand! Their mezcalita was well served and strong. Fun fact from this restaurant is that the caldo de piedra (a stew cooked with hot stones) is prepared by the men exclusively because it is a dish traditionally served to the women on Sunday as a sign of gratitude for all they do so they are not supposed to be part of the preparation of this dish! Thought it was very interesting they still followed that tradition! Highly recommended!

This could be my favorite restaurant from our time in Oaxaca. On our first visit, my wife and I both had the caldo de piedra. Amazing flavorful broth with lots of fish and shrimp. On our second visit, I had to have the soup again and my wife ordered a customized quesadilla with chicken and mushrooms which had great flavor and a lot of filling. On both visits we sampled the house mezcals. The restaurant is pet friendly and we highly recommend it.

The caldo de piedra was amazing, the broth was so delicate and flavourful. You can walk up and watch your soup being made with the hot rocks from the fire, a very unique food experience. One of our favourite meals while in Oaxaca. Must try ! … we had the birria tacos also and they were also amazing.

We stopped here yesterday on our way back to Oaxaca Centro on a bike trip to Tule. Wonderful ambiance, a woman making tortillas in one corner and a large wood fired oven close by. We ordered the caldo de piedra, of course, and a memela and a fabulous drink of pineapple and passion fruit. The caldo de piedra had fish and shrimp and was wonderful! It was served with freshly made tortillas. The memela with chorizo was the best I’ve ever had. The masa was slightly crunchy at the edges, I could have eaten three or four of them if I didn’t have to get back on the bike right away. Great service. Highly recommended!

I can recommend Caldo de Piedra to everyone! A traditional recipe like that deserves to be honoured like they do at the restaurant. It's unique and extremely delicious.
The setting is cosy and the staff are welcoming and very friendly.
It's not in the centre of Oaxaca, but definitely worth the drive there!

Unique eating adventure that should definitely be experienced when in Oaxaca.
Pre Hispanic way of cooking with hot stones.
Water and the ingredients of the caldo are put in a bowl.
Then a hot stone is placed inside, the water starts to boil and everything gets cooked. The procedure is repeated with 3 stones.

It's worth the journey out of Oaxaca. The food (we had the stone soup/caldo de piedra combinado) is reasonably priced for the quality and the entertainment, and the aesthetic inside restaurant is fantastic.

Here they are serving the unique caldo de piedras. A soup boiled in the soup bowl with fire heated stones. A nice experience to watch the cooking process.

I can't understand why this restaurant doesn't have a 2hr waiting line. It was spectacular! The food was delicious, its demonstration was superb and the service was top of the line. Would come back in a heartbeat. Please go!!

Traditional dish cooked with river stones that are kept in a fire. Once a rock has been used once it can no longer be used. The flavor is amazing, yet so basic. They also make amazing hand made quesadillas.
