Roots Otay Restaurant

My Mom and I found this place on accident, just driving around and picking a restaurant at random after a prior appointment.

I wasn’t really in the mood for a steakhouse, but was super impressed with this place.

It has like 1920s charm, beautiful stained glass, and a large food and drink menu.

I originally ordered duck (which they were out of :( sad) so I switched to their medallions (house specialty). The red wine sauce on the meat was the star of the show. I also ordered lentil soup which was great.

My Mom ordered paella valenciana and it was super generous. Two people could eat it.

As well as great mains, they also bring you little appetizers. Serrano ham, gruyere cheese, a little steak kabob each and sesame rolls. And there’s a salad bar included with all the mains.

I would definitely come here again. Hopefully they have duck next time.

Loved this place. Love the evening piano. Loved the atmosphere/look. Great service. Great food. We've lived in the area for 8 months and plan to go back often now that we've found this beautiful little place.

Incredible!! The service was excellent! The appetizers were delicious! Especially the head waiter, he shared the history of the restaurant with us. He made us feel he was only attending us throughout our visit.

The main dishes were amazing. The cocktails were mixed to perfection. The live piano playing was the perfect classy touch.

I was so impressed by the overall quality I returned within a week for another delicious dinner.

I am planning to have my birthday dinner here. The place is quite small but quaint. Make reservationa if you are a party larger than 6.

Items I have tried, escargo, filet migñon, fettuchini, and the homemade cheesecake OH! Speaking of, I was so satisfied with dinner I had no space for deaert but since the food was so delicious how can you not experience the desert, you can always take it home for a later delightful treat.

A bit of the old fashioned atmosphere. Service was very good and good precautions for Covid and clean. I had a nice steak and my wife had some pasta. I give it 5

I have had many meals in this place and it is a hidden culinary gem in Otay. I have had the Rib Eye, the paella, the lamb chops with mint jelly ;) , among other dishes and everything is always served like you asked. They have a salad bar and service is steak sauce (A1). Staff is firendly and very serviceable, they bring you a port apperative to start off your meal right.

Very pleased, delicious meal, wonderful dining experience. Waiters were more like artists. Pianist was exceptional! Extensive menu.

Great place for a business meeting, unfortunately quality of service is not what it was in the past, waiters are not thinking in the customer...it is a shame...

Anytime I can go to a restaurant, and eat all of my food because I'm too full, and only spend lest then $50 for two people and getting 3 course meal? Displace is highly recommended from me

I miss this restaurant. My fiance and I love this Otay restaurant, food and service. I wish your restaurant was doing pickup and delivery during the Covid 19. You would certainly get my business. I hope you get to open soon.

Family pub in Otay, great food and salad bar, they offer you an appetizer and a nice little sherry drink before your meal, european style menu, the piano player and waiters are superb... try their incredible paella on the weekends and save some room for the crepes or bananas flambe, absolutely delicious!

When in TJ eat lunch here, just be ready to relax and dine at a slower pace than you're used to. Great food and service.
