Experimental and Breeding Nursery of Rhododendrons "Babite"

Absolutely astonishing place to see different rhododendron flowers. Blooming time: April till June. Entrance is free for Latvian University students.

It is the most beautiful Rhododendron botanical garden I have ever seen. Thousands of bushes nestled between pine trees. The pines provide shade in the summer heat whrn the flowers typically blossom. They also cast patterns of shadow and sunlight on the rhododendrons so you can enjoy the sight in all its magnificence. The garden is fairly large. A slow walk around the peripheries will take around an hour. But it will actually take longer because you just can't help but stand and gaze at the flowers. There are loads of benches along the way where you could sit. You could have a picnic perhaps. Or you could even just breathe. That reminds me, the air is fragrant with the smell of flowers throughout the area. You'll love it.

Beautiful and calm place to relax

Nice an calming location. Bit crowded when it is the blooming season, but still enjoyable. Recommend going there during work days. Great selection and choices in the store, they are not cheap, keep in mind.

Another place of culture and free roaming nature among other Botanical gardens in Latvia. There are hundreds of rododendron species seen here, icecream stands and public WC. Come here in the mornings, on work days, start of june to be alone with nature and enjoy the beautiful views and smells.

Nice place to visit. Great to have a walk - especially when rhododendron collection is in bloom. Nursery offers wide selection of species and varietes from own breeding programmes, that can withstand latvian climatic conditions. It is good idea to check what plants are currently available.

It's the best time to visit now. Too expensive but you would never find so many flowers in one place.

Beautiful flowers, a park for kids and a small pond with a watchtower. One of the must-visit places during spring.

"Babite" Rhododendron Selection and Testing Nursery. This is the plant breeding nursery for Rhododendron under the auspices of the Latvian University. Public excursions are allowed to the visitors during the summer season when wide varieties of blooming rhododendrons can be seen. This is a very beautiful place for the flower lovers and enthusiasts.

Large garden with hundreds of rhododendrs. Better to visit on working days, becaue the parking may be insufficient on weekends. By the way, you can buy some seedlings of the species created there.
