An ancient work of British engineers which have a unique rare design. You can get a perfect view from the new bridge and if you manage to clear through some jungle you can hike along the old road that fool's bridge connected and get on the fools bridge. Rhis bridge connects the opposite sides of Mahaweli river, which is the longest river of Sri Lanka. This bridge is popular among locals because it's easy to reach and it reminds of an important period in Sri Lankan history.

Valuable historical inheritance from British. But it's sad to visit it current neglected state. You can reach this bridge from foot path beside main road.

There's a famous story circulated about this bridge that it was mistakenly built up-side down by a British engineer who then at the end realizes and commits suicide (jumping off the bridge) in great disgrace, eventually leading to its name "fool's bridge".
This should be just a tall tale and actually this is a Deck-truss design of a bridge which is very rare anywhere.

Beautiful view. Nice place. It's Hard to reach the bridge. There is a foot path to fool's bridge from main road.

It build upside down. But it strong enough to travel. Be careful if you walk on it. Because it is too old one. There is a new bridge also.

“මෝඩයාගේ පාලම” යනුවෙන් හැඳින්වෙන මෙම පාලම යටත් විජිත යුගයේ ඉංග‍්‍රීසීන් විසින් ඉදිකරන ලද්ක්. මෙම පාලම පිහිටා තිබෙන්නේ ගම්පළ, උලපනේ මහවැලි ගඟ හරහායි. යටත් විජිත යුගයේ දී උඩරට තේ වතු සඳහා අශ්ව කරත්ත හා තවලම් යාමට මෙම පාලම භාවිතා කර තිබෙනවා.මෙම පාලමට “කණපිට පාලම” සහ “මෝඩයාගේ පාලම” යනුවෙන් පවසන්නට විශේෂ හේතුවක් තියෙනවා. සාමාන්‍යයෙන් පාලමක දෙපස ඇන්ද පිහිටා තිබෙන්නේ පාලමේ උඩ කොටසේයි. එය පාලම මතින් ගමන් කරන වාහනවලට මෙන්ම මගීන්ට ද ආරක්ෂාව සපයනවා. එහෙත් මෙම පාලමේ ඇඳි සවිකර ඇත්තේ පාලමේ යට කොටසේයි. එය පාලම කණපිට හැරෙව්වාට සමාන අයුරින් දිස්වෙනවා.එහෙත් මෙම පාලම ඉතා ශක්තිමත්.පාලම ඉදිකරන්නට කපා ඔප දැමූ කළු ගල් භාවිතා කර තිබෙනවා. ගම්පළ පාලමට ද වඩා මෙම පාලම පැරණි බවයි පැවනේනේ.පාලම සාදා අවසානයේ බි‍්‍රතාන්‍ය රජයේ නියෝජිතයකු එය විවෘත කිරීමට පැමිණ තිබෙනවා. එහෙත් ඊට පෙර ප‍්‍රධාන ඉංජිනේරුවරයා එය පරීක්ෂා කිරීමට පැමිණ තිබෙනවා. එහි දී පාලම සාදා ඇත්තේ වැරදියට බව ඔහු තේරුම් ගත්තා. එම නිසා පාලම සෑදූ ඉංජිනේරුවරයා ඊට පසුව දිවි නසා ගත් බව ජනප‍්‍රවාදයේ තිබෙනවා.
