Sunset Roti Shop

I stayed in Polhena for a month and fell in love with the Sunset Roti Shop. It is the greatest place to eat in the Matara area. This place is absolutely wonderful for many reasons:
1. Authentic, delicious, local food from a family-run food stand
2. Prices are about a third of the tourist beach bars
3. Absolutely stunning location on the ocean with great tables and chairs right next to the water
4. Sweet, wonderful, kind people who work there
5. Lovely, cute dogs that hang out there, including the beloved Charlie the Dog
6. Many delightful, large, and friendly sea turtles live in the ocean right there, and I rented snorkels from this shop three times during my stay to have incredible, magical morning swims with my wonderful sea turtle friends.
I probably ate at this place a dozen times during my month in Polhena. It was my go-to place — my home away from home. I will miss it very much. Thank you for your kindness and hospitality, my friends! I LOVE THE SUNSET ROTI SHOP!

By far the best place to have authentic local food! We tried almost everything from the menu during our stay at Madiha beach area. Cottu rotti is absolutely amazing! And the atmosphere too, sitting right next to the sea. We are coming to Srin Lanka few times already and that's our favorite place :)

A small family run restaurant with a great view to the ocean. Food is delicious, owners are super friendly, prices about half of those in the nearby beach bars. Recommend!

We stumbled upon this family run place and loved it, so much so we have visited 3 times in 2 days. The best kottu we’ve had in Sri Lanka and stunning spot for sunset.

After 5 years I came back to Sri Lanka and I couldn’t have found the perfect kottu roti until now. Amazing flavour, texture and price as well. The chicken shawarma was also delicious. I can only recommend. 🙏🏻

If you travel on a budget this will be your place, it's the most affordable restaurant around and the food is absolutely amazing. I fell in love with their chocolate banana roti. I found myself going back there practically every single day 😅 the place is run by the warmest and friendliest family.

Absolutely amazing little place! It is what looks like a street food van run by a lovely family but the food that they produce is amazing! You sit by the ocean listening and looking at the waves rolling in and enjoying great food.-

We had a vegetable kottu and a chicken kottu and they were among the best kottu’s we’ve ever tasted! The Banana/Chocolate Roti for desert as well was amazing!

Stunning sunset point!! Great prices. Liked Kottu pretty much. Great lime juice . Friendly owners. Schawarma was mediocre, maybe expected a bit more, but overall it’s a good place :)

Very good local experience. The owner is really nice and the best kotthu I had in whole Sri Lanka. You can eat it right at the ocean, with a great sunset view!

Amazing food from a small family run place next to the sea. We had egg kottu and Roti with banana and chocolate, one of the best meals we have had at Sri Lanka!

Great vegetarian kottu, perfectly seasoned. Delicious lime and mango juices. For lovers of sweet dinners - amazing roti with bananas and chocolate or honey and banana roti. Service is very, very friendly. Plus an amazing atmosphere right on the ocean shore.
