Madampe Sri Murugan Koyil

We went there the day after Thaipongal day where they have shrines and perahara. So the vehicles were not allowed inside. But on usual days, there is parking inside. The place was colourful due to decorations and lighting. Photos are not allowed inside. A person from any religion can visit. There is a little souvenir shop also.

The Famous murugan temple in Madambe. It is located just 8 Km before Chilaw on the Colombo-Chilaw road on the right. The big statute of Lord Murugan on the roadside will attract your attention when you are travelling in this road. There are various statues of gods inside the temple.

There is a washroom facility in the compound and a vegetarian restaurant just outside the compound. tasted Dosai there. Price is very reasonable.

Though it is named as Madampe-Murugan Kovil, many people call it the Little Kataragama (පුංචි කතරගම) Temple. When I got in there, it was clear to me why people was calling like that. This cannot be compared to Kataragama. But this one also beautiful.
Inside of temple there is full of idols on walls and depicted as stories. The temple opens at 5 pm where in the pujari does puja with aaarati and there is rhythm of drums played during this time.
Photos can be taken only in limited areas. Not only Hindus, any other religion people are allow to visit this place. Parking area is available. Flower stalls are available near the kovil specially on Fridays but not sure about other days.

Photos can be taken only in limited areas. Not only Hindus, any other religion people are allow to visit this place. Parking area is available. There is a Thanga Ratham(Golden Chariot) and Velli Ratham (Silver chariot) inside the temple.

While we were on our way to Chilaw (in Colombo - Chillaw Road) we saw a Hindu Kovil, it's very colorful. we wanted to see it inside, Because of its colorfulness. So we decided to stay a little longer there.

The temple was very colorful from the entrance. I can't believe my eyes, it's a really beautiful place. If you go there, you will definitely agree with me. Upon entering, there are five large statues. There had Goddeas Parvati Statue, Shiva Statue, Murugan Statue, Hanuman Statue and Ganesha Statue respectively. These are huge and beautiful statues. The Murugan Statue is similar to the Murugan Statue at Batu Caves Temple in Malaysia.

No photos allowed inside. But if you are going to Chilaw, definitely watch this place.

A massive privately owned Hindu temple. A must see place. Excellently maintained & protected from the weather/elements.

A beautiful Kovil (hindu temple) with huge statues done by well recognized artists. The place is still being expanded. This is said to be done by a single businessman who owns the Cafe and the Fuel Station next to the Kovil.

if you like to have pure vegetarian Indian foods you can have them easily here. opens from 6am

Must visit place if you are going down in chillaw-negambo road. Beautiful temple with artistic and colourful statues. Taking pictures inside the kovil is prohibited. Yet a beautiful temple overall.

One of the biggest decorated murugan temple located between chilaw and madampe. This is the first place for the tourists who arrived to kattunayaka international airport and moving to north of Sri Lanka . Toilet facilities are available and a small vegetarian food shop is located at the front. Entrance free and please follow the temple rules if you are new . In the temple surrounding you can located a rare historical flower call "Lingodpavamalar"

Awesome Place to be visited for all, specially Indians. The structure of temple and the god's are really beautifull 🙏. May gods bless all of us.
