Hertz

Avoid Hertz in Almaty at all costs! Hertz was significantly more expensive than local car rentals. We decided to rent a car from Hertz anyway because we thought that we could rely on the big brand. We could not have been more wrong. The experience we had was absolutely dreadful.

Our reservation was confirmed to start at 7 AM. First, we realized there was no office at the airport, and nobody was answering the phone. Around 8 AM, somebody texted me that he was on the way (with a one-hour delay). Knowing our itinerary, we had thoughtfully booked an SUV. The guy showed up in a Chrysler Cobalt, the smallest toy-like car on the market. We refused to take it. After some discussion, he promised that he would get the SUV in another hour. We finally got the correct car around 10 AM, waiting for it for almost 3 hours.

The car was terrible. It had 175,000 km on the clock, which for a Renault Duster on dusty Kazakhstani roads is well beyond its lifespan. There were dents and scratches everywhere. One tire had low pressure (took another hour to fix). When we finally got on the road (with a 4-hour delay), we realized that the appearance of the car was the least of our problems. It did not brake properly, and the steering was faulty. There was no rearview mirror. The AC did not work. The hood was not properly attached in the front. It was really dangerous to drive.

The only positive aspect was that my deposit was returned with no issues.

My money was taken but i did not receive a car, nor was i informed about any kind of cancellation. This not only is unprofessional but also theft. And it ruined my trip.

Kurz vor Anreise wurde mein Auto ersatzlos storniert und jetzt ist alles andere doppelt so teuer wie zu meiner Buchungszeit. Nie wieder Hertz!!! 👎👎👎👎👎
