Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro Regional Museum

This is a nice little hidden gem, they even have a lot of decent signs in English. One of the desk staff at the museum even came out and gave my kids origami paper to play with while they were waiting. They have great little models and diagrams to build, and a lot of interesting facts about history if you're into Japanese history. The docents were really polite too.

I wanted to stay all day but my wife only allowed me two hours 😩 I wanted to feel the spirit and soul of the local people who lived here for thousands of years. The special exhibition room had many historical household items, TVs, washing machines, kitchen tools, many of them are also in my wife's Kasagi family home!

南山城の多面性に気付かされるミュージアム。考古資料豊富。説明してくれる人たちも知識豊富。

現地を見に行って、ここで背景を確認して…という形で何度もこの資料館には来ています。資料館の入口は階段を上がった2階にあり、左側の一室に常設の展示コーナーがあります。右側の一室は特別展示のある時だけ開放されてますね。入館料は200円で、撮影はできなかったはず。

名前に「山城」郷土資料館とはありますけど、展示物は木津川市のものが中心になります。久世郡や綴喜郡のものは少ないかな。
なお、意外と見落としがちなのは1階にも展示があることで、茶業関連の展示物があります。あと受付で頼めば屋上も見せてもらえるはず、見晴らしがいいですよ。

かつては平城京の物流を担った木津や、都とされた恭仁京など、南山城の華やかなりし時代を知ることができます。受付で一声かけると、屋上からの通路を通って千両山古墳群の見学もできます。

京都は洛中だけじゃない、南山城の重層的な歴史にも気づかされる得難い施設

南山城の実力がよく分かる資料館。今日は府内で発見された4振の蛇行剣を見せていただきました。

ひっそりした場所にあるので、もっもと宣伝したひ広報活動をすべきだとおもいました。

係の人を独り占めしてタップリと丁寧に説明をして頂きました。

興味ある資料が豊富。勉強になりました。
