The staff speak very good English and is super helpful and friendly. Located in a quiet area and also good location to get around the city (just 5-10min walk to bus/train station. They also provide luggage service which is super convenient for Kumano Kodo trekkers. A place to feel homey and to have the taste of very tradition Japanese “futon” style. They are also very considerate to provide early breakfast for trekkers to catch early bus. And the most important of all, the hot shower is very good!!!!!

Mayumi was a truly wonderful host. She went above and beyond to make sure our Kumano trip started successfully. The cake we had when we arrived with tea, cherry jam, cream, and ice cream was spectacular. Some of the best food we had this entire trip. The accommodation was very comfortable and exactly what we expected. Thank you, Mayumi, we hope to visit again.

A beautiful little guest house which is the perfect place to stay to start the kumano kodo trail. The host is very helpful, delightful, and makes amazing chiffon cakes. Tall people should be prepared to whack their head a few times as this is a legitimate old school Japanese house.

Stayed here one night before the Kumano Kodo. Mayumi-san was incredibly kind and welcoming, I slept like a baby here! And her chiffon cake was incredible, so I can recommend her food too! The black sesame one was my favourite, but the plain was delicious too!

Great little pension / guesthouse in Tanabe. Very friendly staff, comfortable futon beds and room, and great coffee for breakfast. Downsides include lack of privacy (thin / paper walls), breakfast on the skimpy side (but delicious) and funky key-sharing system. Charming - but takes a few extra steps to do life things here. About a 10 minute walk from the train station.

The cutest cafe near the beach. We had the matcha parfait and it was DELICIOUS.

Stayed here for a couple of nights before and after walking on the Kumano Kodo. It's a lovely little guesthouse. The owner, Mayumi is very welcoming and helpful and does excellent cake.

Guest house was very nice. A charming old building, the room simple but more than enough and a very nice host.
