We had a short but sweet stay at Furumaya House, the Japanese home cooking by Sayaka-san is absolutely delicious, the hamburger steak is to die for. The rice is home grown and the other ingredients are locally sourced. We also really enjoyed the home made umeju, must try if you visit!

If you are looking for a homey/cozy place to stay with great home cooking look no where else.

Would definitely come and stay again to experience the area in depth next time!

Sayaka-san and Nicolas welcomed us with warmth and is easily the best stay in our entire Japan trip last week.

Like everyone on this page, if you’re thinking of going, don’t think, just book the stay at Furumaya House.

We are city kids and this stay fully recharged us and the food that Sayaka-san prepared with so much love was truly happiness in our tummies.

Sharing some pics of our trip and once again, thank you for your hospitality both. It’s a blessing to be with nature in your house. 🍁🍂✨

Furumaya House is wonderful! Everything from the warm interior design, to the heart-felt hospitality, to the amazingly delicious food, will make you want to stay longer. The location is beautiful, providing guests with an authentic experience of life in the countryside of Kyoto. The surrounding nature will calm your soul, while Nicolas and Sayaka's kindness will make you feel welcome from the minute you arrive. The house itself has been renovated with careful thought to maintain a traditional ambiance with attention to the smallest details, including the charming bath, which adds to the total warm and cozy experience. The meals at Furumaya are amazing! The dinner I had there was one of the best I have ever had in my 30 years of living in Japan, from taste to presentation. Sayaka's heart-felt devotion to healthy and quality local ingredients comes through in every bite. When you include the fact that you are eating rice that Nicolas has farmed, you will feel a sense of appreciation. Overall, the only regret we have is not staying longer!

Excellent location if you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of the Japanese cities.
We had a very relaxing stay here with excellent care from the owners. Great breakfast, fantastic dinner. The area is nice to just have a nice walk & check out the country side.

We recommend trying some of their home made umeshu! It inspired us to try & make some ourself at home, it was that good.

The rice grown by the owners is also without a doubt the best rice we've ever had. And that's saying a lot in such a rice heavy country!

Staying in late fall, it was sublime to end the day with a nice hot bath prepared & relaxing by the wood stove fire.

So if you are looking for relaxing, quiet & serene experience away from the urban settings, check out Furumaya house. You won't regret it!

We are so glad we stayed at Furumaya and wish we had allotted more time. The countryside is a beautiful place to spend some time, especially if you’ve been traveling through the larger cities of Japan. The family has created a very welcoming and comfortable space to enjoy, and they make you feel right at home. Nicolas and Theo greeted us at the train station, and we enjoyed a cooking lesson with Sayaka in the evening. Her cooking is excellent, and much of the food you will eat is either local to the area or grown on the property.

We are so thankful to Sayaka, Nicolas, and Theo for opening their homes and their hearts to us during our stay and would definitely recommend for others to stay here and take in this experience.

A unique and wonderful opportunity. Stop reading this and book a night (if available)
Relaxing, peaceful, delicious healthy meals in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Fresh coffee in the morning with homemade bread was a welcome change from a traditional Japanese breakfast although that is also available. I’ve lived in Japan for 25yrs + and this is “the real deal” I’ll definitely be returning.

This is an amazing guest house/farm stay in the country side of Kyoto prefecture. The French and Japanese couple hours so lovely and they really understand hospitality and making guests feel comfortable and relaxed. The food was amazing and sitting by the cozy fire was one of the highlights of my exploration of the area.

Its a lovely place here. The hosts are very friendly and kind and welcoming you with an open heart. You get to know the japanese kitchen very well and learn alot about their culture. Its very interesting how people from another country can make you feel “at home”
The night is silent and peaceful. Also the atmosphere is very peaceful and calming. The backyard is great with a lovely sight in the ricefield. The food is handmade and most of it Fresh from the own garden. They treat you very kindly.
I would come back at any time.

A great experience in the outskirts of Ayabe. The Hosts are really kind and helpful. The dinner was great and we got a cooking lesson to learn how to prepare it ourselves. Everything is prepared for us so we can enjoy our stay. Drinks and snacks are also available for a surcharge. For Breakfast it was possible to choose between wester style breakfast and japanese style breakfast. We had the western style frenchtoast.

The atmosphere was breathtaking! The staff was helpful, friendly and courteous. The cooking course and the tea ceremony were interesting and educational. But the menu in the evening topped everything: homemade Tenpura, homemade rice, homemade salad, homemade ginger ale and homemade cocktails. A nice memory for the rest of my life.

When my husband and I decided to go on a trip to Japan, I knew that I would want to spend some time in the countryside and get away from the big cities for a few days. I learned about Furumaya from a friend who used to live in Japan. I am so glad that we went, because staying at Furumaya House was my favorite part of our Japanese vacation.

Sayaka and Nicolas were so welcoming. Before we arrived at the home, we attended a traditional tea ceremony with a tea master in town. Then, we were able to spend the rest of the day relaxing while looking at the beautiful countryside.

The dinner that Sayaka cooked was the best meal I ate in Japan. Everything was fresh and local (almost all the produce from her farm!!). It was absolutely delicious and I also loved the Japanese bath I took after dinner.

Breakfast the next morning was also fantastic. I had the Western style breakfast and my husband had a traditional Japanese breakfast. Both amazing. I would recommend this trip to anyone!

We were greeted by extremely courteous hosts. We had registered for a tea ceremony and were also driven there. We also had a great "Japanese Cuisine" cooking course which was only surpassed by the delicious food.

Beautiful farmstay with welcoming hosts! The scenery and food are phenomenal. The Japanese baths are different, but don't let that stop you from coming!

My husband and I enjoyed a perfect five nights at Furumaya as part of our honeymoon in Japan. After the hustle and bustle of touring Japanese cities, Furumaya was a peaceful place to relax and experience true Japanese country life. The surroundings are absolutely stunning. Although we didn't do many day trips, the four days passed surprisingly quickly simply enjoying the view, napping, writing in our journals, enjoying great food and drink, and visiting with our wonderful hosts. Sleeping with the open air and only the sound of frogs provided great rest compared to our everyday lives! Sayaka and Nicholas are the most warm, hospitable hosts and we really felt like a part of their family during our stay.

We would definitely recommend booking the breakfast / dinner package, as Sayaka's homemade Japanese meals were some of the best we had on our trip. It was so special to eat rice and vegetables grown right on the property! My husband is a vegetarian and Sayaka was able to accommodate this no problem with non-meat meals that were creative and delicious. The house wine and draft beer was also wonderful.

Although we rarely wanted to leave the guesthouse, the local onsen (public bath) was a favorite activity. Overall, a truly memorable travel experience!

Owner san are so nice that serve us with heart. The ingredients used for meals are either farmed by themselves or bought from local market. The surrounding environment is very nice as well that worth for spending time for walking around
