First base I was stationed on, met my best friends there that I still keep up with, never stop striving to do better for your Marines and they will do better in the long run. Great base and an amazing location

I was stationed at camp Hansen from September 1961 to Dec. 1962, 3rd Tank Battalion. At that time Camp Hanson consistent of only the tank battalion. The camp was under construction. The enlisted barracks consisted of 14 Quonset huts, 1 sick bay hut, 6 S/NCO huts 4 Officer huts and a chow hall. M.O.S. was artillery, tank turret and small arms repair. The only range at the time was a tank practice driving and practice combat area. Hang outs were Kin village and Ishikawa. That's all there was to do at that time, nothing on base.
I really Okinawa and the people there were really wonderful people.

I was a Navy corpsman at camp Hansen, attached to shore party, then the engineers, then infantry. Enjoyed the two years I was on Okinawa. Learned a lot about the culture and the food. My favorite food was yakisoba, right outside the base. Yakisoba is their fast food on the island. Quite a few typhoons in which we had to tie rope from building to another. We had Japanese women in our barracks during the day called Mama-son who did our laundry. They did a really good job and the pay was reasonable.

I was there from April of 1981 to April of 1982 with 3rd Combat Engineers. I was lucky enough to be there with some great Marines! We had some fun times. Team Spirit '82 was awesome. We even took a little trip to Diego Garcia! Good times with my boys! Semper Fi

I was there in the early 80's. Love the people, (99%of them), the Yankees go home before your first cup of coffee, the food, the culture, the pristine blue water. The sneaking of the base during a typhoon to get more booze for the party. The secret off limits waterfall we had to sneak though the fence to get to. And yes the team spirit floats we took. ( Never trust the navy when they are if you want to go for a big boat ride ). But, all in all, it was a blast. Wish I could do it again.
Semper Fi brothers and sisters.

Blast from the past!! Was there in 1981 with 3/1 First Marine Div. Furloughed to Super Squad as a grenadier we won the local competition cant remember the other squads, I believe 2 or 3. Our squad flew back for the overall competition in Quantico. We didn't place at least not in the top 3 so the gold, silver & bronze medal didn't come home with us. Oh yea Okinawa really enjoyed the Buccaneer and Kin Ville. Didn't particularly like calling home from the Mars Station "Hi mom, Over, say hi to dad and the rest of the family. Over!!! Thats just the way it was back in the day. Overall enjoyed my stay in Okinawa had great Super Squad Friends just to mention a few if memory serves me right. Lt. Fournier, SSgt Powell - Baltimore, Cpl Fitch, Cpl Hernandez, Cpl McGrath, L/cpl Soto, L/cpl O'Reilly, L/cpl Smith, L/cpl Roe Indianapolis, L/cpl Engstrom not sure if the spelling is correct, cant remember our squad leaders name Sgt ???? As a 21 year old it was hard being on the other side of the world. Would like to go back with my family if possible some day.

If I had to be any other place on this beautiful island, I surely wouldn't have had as an amazing time in the Marines as I had. Right outside the gate is Kin and then we trained @ Kin Blue which was our office for 2 years. Why did I leave?

Camp Hanson could of been worse, I was lucky to experience other cultures especially the Okinawan culture. There was a great waterfall near by. 😉 I'll never forget the sweet Melody of Yankee Go Home ringing out in the morning.

So much has changed since my time on Okinawa. I was there in 77&78. I was assigned to the 3rd c.e.b no I'm unable to locate the barracks and the heavy equipment shop

My son is
stationed in Okinawa, He's been there over a year now and love's the Island. He turns 21, 1/14/17 and he has another year before he gets to come home. He earned his blood stripes last October and he said the year flew by. And the legal drinking age is 20 not 21 in Okinawa.

Right near the PX entrance, a brand new Turkish tailor shop, recently opened and, the prices seem super-low, compared to any other places like this, out in town.

Stationed there 6/69 - 10/69. Not a bad base. Kin was right outside the main gate and was quite a place! :)
