The location, the service, the accommodations, and the food were all incredible. I’ve never stayed in a place that had such a strong spirit of place. Would travel to Japan just to stay here. 10/10

A fantastic Ryokan! Small enough to feel special, and yet has all the facilities of large establishment.

Customer service is fantastic, detailed and personalised. Rooms were spacious and have a wonderful traditional feel. Room cleans were very thorough.

The onsite Onsen are what make the place especially memorable. They are relaxing, and kept immaculately clean and tidy. Just perfect after a full day of snow activity.

Thankyou to the wonderful staff at Ryokan Sakaya. Hope to visit again in the near future!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. As a Japanese-American visiting family/home, it was the best location, traditional living set-up, and truly makes you feel like you're in a traditional home. The way that the hotel is set up (Onsen on the second floor along with the food/kitchen/meals), with windows to look over the koi pond, while also making sure all of the rooms were soundproof. Everyone who works there is so open to helping you, teaching you about Japanese traditions, and wants you to feel right at home. PLEASE stay here while you're here!

The overall ryokan is much nicer than the picture that I saw online.

The lobby was comfortable and spacious, there are a small toy corner with books for kids to play.

The deluxe room are very spacious and comfortable. The entire place is very cleaned.

Before our arrival the host ms yuki was very helpful and answer all my various question and help me to book our dinner venue in advance.

The room temperature is just right we could just open the window if we feel stuffy.

The location is fantastic, near eateries, short walk to YU road which lead to the kid park and you can find rental shop cafe, gondola, snow mobile all there. Walking to bus stop is also quite near we could push 5 of our luggage walk there no issue

The breakfast was abit plain and we didn’t know have to change one day in advance if we want to opt for western breakfast hence we had our breakfast at opp tanuki instead which is very good.

Dinner at the ryokan was abit disappointed, is not very filling, item abit plain. Maybe we not use to the traditional taste. But overall presentation is good, the kids meal looks yummy and tasty.

Highly recommend this ryokan if you are here !

Stayed 1 night with dinner and breakfast.
I only booked the room online at 10am on the same day, so very surprised the hotel can get the room and meals organized within a few hours.
Both dinner & breakfast are traditional japanese and very well cooked. I'm impressed the staff have provided a photo of the dishes with English names of the food (along with an English menu) on the photo which has shown their attention to detail.
I like both the indoor and outdoor onsen, although not big, felt more comfortable and more at ease, as no one else were using them when I was in.
Room was traditional japanese and comfortable, very clean and pleasantly with a humidifier in the room. The room probably is a bit cold at night (can't find the temperature control switch in the room).

We had a wonderful stay in Roykan Sakaya. Rooms were big and staff were friendly but a little inexperienced. Wonderful Onsen and breakfast. This ryokan is in the heart of Nozawa Onsen town and maybe a 10 min walk to Yu Road travellator.

Excellent Ryokan! The public onsens are very nice and beautiful, and there is even a private one available for reservation. The staff were all extremely attentive, getting our shoes when we headed out or setting up the futons for us. Perfect location in town and by ski area. We didn't have dinner here, but the breakfast was really good and served in a private room.

Excellent boutique hotel. Indoor /outdoor hot spring is a major upside. High quality Japanese style breakfast and tasting dinners. Rooms are clean and quiet. Dedicated ski equipment room keeps things tidy. Easy access to gondola / base lodge. In town plenty of bar and restaurant options. Haus St. Anton was a favorite. Beer Bar with modest 5 house made selections across the street.

The most wonderful welcome, beautiful comfortable Japanese style room, very handy to the snow, and in a fascinating old village. Wonderful onsens. It is amazing to relax in an onsen while snow falls around you. And the food was extraordinary - fresh, local, and beautifully presented by very helpful staff.

Stayed here a couple of years back for Christmas. Makes me miss Japan so much. Twice we been to nozowa onsen, once to this hotel. Honestly the happiest memories apart from running around Tokyo wearing ears and a tail. Can't wait till the end of covid so we can return! Love from Australia

Traditional ryokan in the heart of Nowazaonsen - close to both the ski hill and restaurants.
Staff are phenomenal and the ryokan is very quiet.
The onsen is amazing and not as intimidating as having to visit the town onsens.
The only negative would be the 7:30 breakfast seating which is the earliest available and not a great option on a powder day.
On those days I recommend planning ahead and grabbing something at the kombini instead or suffer tracked out pow.

Great ryokoan. Fantastic service. The onsens are possibly the best part. Especially the private one if your staying with your partner. Still, a little overpriced though.
