Hattoji Villa

Hattoji International Villa was set up by a past mayor of Okayama due to his excellent treatment overseas. He wanted to say thank you and repay the hospitality. Hattoji International Villa is a 300 year old farmhouse. It has four traditional rooms, two toilets, a rare goemon bath and other amenities. Most of the Villa is traditional BUT the kitchen has everything you need, there's wifi, and a lovely hearth to relax around. Heads up - It can get cold! We had it to ourselves (we're a family of 5) and LOVED it. Super adorable and nestled in a quiet traditional village. We'll be back for sakura or rice harvesting season!

For us it was an amazing experience. We had the large villa all to ourselves. It was well-appointed and in a beautiful area with loads of different walks, particularly around Mt. Hattoji. Shop for food before heading there because there's nowhere to buy it once you arrive although there are two restaurants - one of them really different. There is an irori with an ingenious and easy way to light it and a goemonburo. It must have been out-of-season because we didn't see a single other tourist for 3 days. I understand that in Autumn, lots of cars come up from the city to look at the leaves. It is about the cheapest accommodation we've had in Japan and amongst the most memorable and enjoyable. The standard map is very much "impressionist" and inaccurate but there is another available if you ask around for it and I suggest you get it before exploring.

A wonderful escape to a bygone era. The hostess is friendly, the futons are soft, the views are magnificent. The quiet will fill your soul with peace and the rustic atmosphere will refresh your mind.

Serene, traditional villa in the mountains. Basic accommodation but highly recommended to get an idea of rural Japanese life.

A nice place to stay, and feel the atmosphere from Japan 200years ago. Silent and great for watching stars in the night.

Excellent Japanese experience

Ultieme verblijfplaats voor diegene die de drukke Japanse steden zat is of een keer wil uitrusten op een afgelegen, rurale, bergdorpje. Het gebouw zelf is al heel oud en heeft een traditionele vuurplaats en stenen badkuip. Met een paar moderne aanpassingen is het de perfecte getaway plek. Denk eraan om van tevoren eten in te slaan, aangezien er geen supermarkt in de buurt is en de 2 restaurants die minstens 15-20 lopen zijn niet altijd open zijn. Een betere beleving van het rurale gebied van Japan krijg je niet. Ook kun je er rondlopen in traditionele yakuta, wat een aanrader is voor de zomer.
