Sawamura was a great bakery and cafe to grab an easy bite to eat in the morning before getting on with the day. There were many options of flavors of baked pastries and a good selection of drinks as well. On the other side of the building, there is a restaurant as well with its own seating area, but if you'd like to eat your food from the cafe, there is some available seating in certain areas as well as the second floor.

Breakfast set, service, atmosphere, everything is just fantastic. We visited early before 9am but found quite many customers already. Highly recommend if you like having a new breakfast experience instead of hotel ones.

Visited for early dinner with kids in mid December on Tuesday not a busy tourist period. Apparently many restaurants are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday so we are lucky Sawamura was open!

We ordered lamb chop, pizzas, soup of the day, salad and dessert & cocktails. Everything was amazing complimented by attentive and unobtrusive service.

Venue had lovely lighting, just warm enough but not too hot as in some places during winter, beautiful jazz/classical music.

We also picked up a few selection of baked goods for a second breakfast and all were delicious.

Reasonable price considering quality of food, service, atmosphere, highly recommend.

Service was excellent.
The bakery looks interesting but no space for it.
May be next time.

Lovely bakery, it was really busy so I ordered to go. Had 5 different items and wish I had more! The bread was delicious, crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The pastries were flaky and very well balanced, sweet and salty. The cake was soft like a cloud. Coffee did the job. Hopefully I will get to sit at the restaurant for my next visit.

Was looking for a coffee shop and delighted to see they have one here called sawamura, they also have another outlet over the other station at haruna terrace
I saw they had a few options for filter coffee
The one I chose which is the bean from rawanda was well made and very smooth and sweet
The coffee restaurant serves hot food also and is a 2 story terraced house, upstairs there’s a fireplace and some comfy chairs
Very nice environment

Nice cafe nearby old Karuizawa ginza street. The bread was really nice. The restaurant was pretty huge and minimalist design.

There are two lines. One for restaurant seating, and one for the bakery and drinks.
Order bread at the bread counter, then drinks at the register.
Very cool atmosphere and the place went from but busy to packed in just a few minutes.
Expect a line during meal times.
Free parking in their lot, but for only about 20 cars, and no street parking.
Cash, card, and a few electronic payments, but not all.

Cafe near the forest, very atmospheric. Many assortments of croissants 🥐. And the cappuccino is delicious.

There is a drawback: the toilet is very dirty

I think this was my favorite meal in Karuizawa. Lunch was phenomenal. Service was very efficient but friendly. The restaurant space is large, bright, and modern.

We ordered the grilled chicken leg and the beef stew. The grilled chicken leg was served with a Cesar salad made with grilled romaine lettuce. The dish had a creamy tomato sauce on the side. The beef stew was melty fall apart short rib in a rich sauce with creamy mashed potatoes.

The cocktails were also good. If we had another night in town we would have tried lunch. Plan ahead, even in the off season (December), there was a wait for lunch on a weekend!

The cafe is also good if you need a quick bit to go!

The bakery is also great.

super fine place.
dogs are allowed outside seats.
Seafood salad is the way to go.
Burger was big and full of flavor.
Meat patties were chunk grind, so it almost tastes like a steak.
bit dry as seen in typical Japanese burgers.

Before my opinion, one disclaimer is that I came here for dinner and not the bakery. So those looking for a review on the bread keep scrolling.

First things first, the atmosphere in the restaurant is very modern and the lighting goes with the general feeling like chicken and gravy. Most seats in the restaurant has a view of the whole floor from the bakery to the bar to even where the chefs work. Music also keeps the place lively while not interrupting your meal. In terms of what is on the menu, there are over 30 things (just a estimate) but a surprisingly small number of main dishes. Then again that means there are more appetizers then more combinations of food to try. Most things are quite pricy and would cost about 4000 minimum per person if each person has a main and a appetizer.

The food quality here is great but can be beaten by some restraunts for the same price. But that is only for some specific foods. I would suggest getting a variety of things instead of sticking to one dish. Within those dishes that you choose make sure you get a bread related dish. In my case it was the pizza. Unlike most pizzas they made it like you make bread. The "crust" was not crispy but instead fluffy like the insides of French bread but also feels like mochi once it's in your mouth. Although not impossible i find it somewhat challenging to be vegan and eat here. Most dishes consist of meat and relies on ordering a variety of dishes to get a good balance of foods.

For a formal or special dinner I would definitely come here again.

Has it's own parking space. But might get crowded if they are busy. We came on a rainy day for lunch and it was quiet.
Ambience is quaint. We had the beef burger, tomato basil calzone and panfried salmon.

Burger was good, the patty had good bite to it and did not fall apart. Calzone was great. Salmon was good, skin is crispy and the insides are still pink, like how good panfred salmon should be

We enjoyed our lunch there. It’s a spacious modern place and they serve simple but delicious dishes; we ordered the lasagna, a ricotta calzone and a chocolate terrine cake for dessert. The lasagna was good, maybe had too much mushrooms but it’s my taste ;-) the calzone and the cake were both delicious. We ordered a kid menu which was a success! Staff was friendly enough and comfortable with foreigners. The place was very kid friendly with high chairs and special kid menu. We all had a great time! Totally recommend it!
