Akita Dog Visitor Center

Fabulous place just opposite to the Odate JR station to know about the famous Akita dogs of Japan. Staffs are so friendly and greeting sessions with the Akita dogs is such a fun experience! Love the green bean ice cream and all the Akita doggo souvenirs as well!! Please come to visit!

It's a nice experience to see the real Akita dogs. We also got 3 free badge pins as souvenirs.

The entry is free and it gives interesting information about the Akita inu. It's much more maintained and updated than the museum in the same town. A dog is visible through a glass (and on the grass behind the building when they're having a walking break) and seems very well taken care of. People are complaining that the dogs can't be petted but when I came, there were so many people that in a way I felt relieved for the dog that they couldn't be touched. It would be overwhelming to be touched all day by hundreds and hundreds of unknown people.

Pretty nice place with Akita dogs, educational materials, gift shop, was surprised to see it was free which really makes it a good deal. Not allowed to touch the dogs but at one point one was brought out where people could take pictures next to it.

A great little spot to fill a half-hour or so.

We stopped by Odate on our way to Niseko to check this place out. The facility was wonderful and was a nice break from the cold. Lots or nice souvenirs to acquire here. The staff were incredibly friendly and gave even let us pet two of the Akitas they brought out, Ruka and Rensui, who are incredibly good dogs! Definitely recommend you check it out.

This new visitor center has a lot of interesting information about the Akita Inu. The staff is very friendly too. As I went on a Monday, there were no dogs. 😅

Great place to learn about the history of Akita dogs and to see one in real life. Highly recommended!

Really special experience for Akita Inu lovers. Can’t interact with the dogs directly but can see them close enough and enjoy them play around. Souvenir shop has a lot of items for one to remember the visit. Hope the Akita Inu increase in number and are cared for by a lot of people in the future. Highly recommended, specially if you have kids who like dogs.

It was very nice visitor center that visitors can see and touch a Akita dog at. It is very brand new building, so I would like to recommend to come there to visitors

Bought some cute pins there, everything was cute here. Sadly, i didn't have enough time in Odate. I had to catch the train back to Tokyo.

Are you a fan of Akita Inu? Then here is the place for you. You can see the dogs and take lots of pictures. The souvenir shop has some interesting little tidbits that are truly representative of the Akita Inu. Check it out.

The dogs are super cute. Like super cute. Staff is sweet and the area is nice to look at.
