お寺の名前だけ見ると立派な門や本堂を想像していましたが、かなり寂しいお寺でした。そのせいか、他に観光客はおらずゆっくりと拝観出来ました。本通りから少し歩くので、その距離も良いのかもしれません。

1226年建立。筑前国秋月藩初代藩主黒田長興によって祈願寺として本尊の不動明王をはじめ虚空蔵菩薩が安置されている。 天台宗の寺院。参道の石段は幅が広い。 藩主を載せた駕籠を横向きにして登る為と思われる。境内には護摩堂、虚空蔵堂、観音堂、宝筺印塔のほか石仏が鎮座しているものの、長年手入れされていないのか境内は荒れ果てており、木造のお堂はいずれも経年劣化が激しい。

黒田官兵衛ゆかりの地・・という立て札に案内されて訪れたものの、秋月城跡からは若干距離があり、廃れてしまった境内には訪れる人も少なく、すれ違う人もほとんどいない物寂しい寺院
