On the way to the location I thought we are in the middle of nowhere because we are surrounded by greeneries, fields, cows. Then as we arrive, I am amazed that people are all there. Walking around the fields and the car parking is almost full. There are many cars and buses still coming in.
The place is good for exercise. We walked a lot.
The stores and museum are like water in the desert,
And people are lining up for coffee.
The hotdog truck vendor tried to speak english and it was adorable. 🥰

You come and need to see it for yourself. The partial snow cover really makes the field look like window XP background. Microsoft designers if you see this, may consider coming here in winter to take some for your next computer model.

One of the favorite place and spot that i relaxed for 60 mins. Walking down and straight to the hill is amazing. You can ride horse too for 1,500 yen per person. I will come back in Later Winter season to see fresh green and more water in the swamp / lake.

Also know as 草千里(literally grass 1000miles). The lakes(reflections), the climbs and the volcano. The view is fantastic. We can also climb behind the carpark to the lookout point. From the top, we can see the low-lying clouds. You can expect horses to loiter around during Spring time. Beautiful landscape.

Beautiful natural landscape, expanding for miles in the Kumamoto countryside. Nice stroll around the fields in pleasant weather conditions (not so much in the rain). Horses roaming the pastures. The only downside is the carparking situation, where there is only paid one nearby.

Parking lot cost 500yen and open till 5.30pm.
We reached around 4.30pm so we didn't walk too far off but still able to take some beautiful photos. There's are horse roaming around so is pretty chill.
A bit windy tho, staff at parking lot remind us to bring jacket too haha 😁

A beautiful grassy knoll and a couple of small ponds from the remnants of a prior volcanic activity.

What a relaxing place. I enjoyed a cup of coffee and stayed there for more than 2 hours. It is easy to travel from JR Hakata to JR Aso station and then get to this place by local bus. Driving is not a must.

One of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been. The wild horses, wild flowers and the smoking volcano in the background. Wow. I’ll remember this place for the rest of my life.

This is the last stop to Mount Aso because u are not allowed to go further near the craters. Anyway, the view on mount Aso from here is magnificent. The view on its large grass lands is also great. Yes, i agree tht the parking fee here is quite expensive. Dont forget to visit the souvenir shops and try the local desserts here. They are quite interesting. The horse meat skewer is also interesting for those who are food adventure.

Closest we have ever been to an active volcano. Good food and amenities around the area too, and very good gelato too. Parking costs about 500 yen per car.

Great view of Mt Aso. Carpark cost 410 yen though, which is pretty high but there's no other choice. The lookout platform parking is free but a longer walk to Kusasenri.
