Great experience staying for a night in this lovely temple: the building and rooms are very nice, in traditional Japanese style and have everything you need incl. great view into the temple gardens. The food is a real experience with lots of different dishes and tastes, although not always sure what everything was. Also visiting the morning ceremony was very interesting to see. Special thank also to the friendly staff, which made our stay a real highlight of our holidays.

Loved our stay here. The location and the temple is great, the staff is very very friendly and accommodating, the food was perfect. What more can you ask for. A bit on the pricy side for the stay, but thinking about that it also includes breakfast and dinner makes it all worth it. We loved watching the garden and just contemplate life as koi fish were swimming by.

Is this Japanese Luxury? I don't know but for me it felt like it . The attention to details, the room, the quality of the food and the service from the personnel was outstanding. My only regret is that I just stayed 1 night .

We like the stay w lot. Tranquil atmosphere. Dinner is at 5:30 pm, morning prayer at 6:30 am. The road to Ichijoin is windy so drive carefully.

we stayed here at the 宿坊for one night, really loved the experience!
They provided very delicate dinner and breakfast, before the breakfast we also got the chance to join the morning service.
Very beautiful Japanese garden and very nice staff!
Wish we were staying for longer.
But you need to book a couple of months ahead.

Stayed here on the tail-end of our honeymoon and had a great experience. The meals are completely vegan so you get to sample a really wide variety of different local vegetables. Many of the temples in the area offer a similar experience, but I think the staff here sets them apart - they were incredibly accommodating. Highly recommend

I am Japanese, living in overseas many years. This place is amazing. If you are interesting in Japanese cultures and history, you will enjoy this accomodations. The food, “shoujin ryouri “ is art pieces. You never regretted!

This is a wonderful temple that has guest rooms. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. The Temple complex itself was beautiful, with historic traditional Japanese style. The rooms are tatami mat rooms. There is also a great public bath (onsen) which was great and relaxing. The food was excellent and vegan, and the morning prayer service was an amazing experience, hearing the monks chant prayers.

Beautiful temple within walking distance of all that Koyasan has to offer, everything here looks like it should be on a postcard. The monks are very attentive and welcoming I never felt like we should not be here. The vegan meal for dinner was meticulously prepared and the pride taken in what was being served to their guests really showed this was served in our room while we sat under a warm electric blanket and was an absolute highlight and one that will never be forgotten. The morning prayer service is well worth attending and really adds to the experience of staying here the prayer room has to be seen to be believed and its very surreal being there first thing in the morning with all the monks chanting. It was very cold when we stayed April but our room was always warm. It's not cheap to stay anywhere here in Koyasan but this is a once in a lifetime experience and well worth it.

Amazing stay here for one night. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Really well located in to town, right in the centre and easy access to busses. Curfew time is 9pm and ceremony is at 6:15am. Try the baths after dinner and enjoy the surroundings. It’s quite cold outside but the room is really warm and was preheated when we arrived. There are some nice places in the town to get lunch and lots of small shops for souvenirs and snacks. Would 100% recommend to stay here!

Beautiful temple filled with gorgeous artwork and decor, calming garden with koi pond, and relaxed traditional Japanese style rooms. Wonderful public bath, and yukatas are provided to wear while lounging the temple interior. Very friendly monks provide excellent service preparing your rooms and bringing your (extremely diverse and artfully presented) meal courses. Zero complaints, a wonderful and relaxing stay. I recommend attending the prayers in the morning before breakfast, for an intense and close-up cultural experience of Buddhist traditional prayer!

Food was great. Staff were extremely nice. The grounds are beautiful and the morning prayer service was pleasant. Pro tip for gaijin attending the morning pray. 1 bow before entering hall. 2. You should do this part. During the service they will go one by one to approach the front. When it is your turn stand and approach middle bow before getting to the middle. Kneel at the table (you don't have to kneel if you don't want to). Take a pinch from right dish hold in front of you and place in incense container. Repeat this part again. Hold you hands together, bow and then stand up. Then turn around bow to everyone else and return your seat.

Rooms inside are amazing. Excellent vegan meals served. Morning prayers are hypnotic, a bit brutal if you’re not used to waking up early.

Fantastic, incredible, perfect experience. My third time staying here... At the largest room which with meals for three people is around $1100 per night. I usually travel to Japan for pleasure once or twice a year for three weeks. My suggestion is to start with the craziness of Tokyo and finish with the peace and tranquility of Koyasan. A suggestion... If you do this, there is an express bus to KIX Kansai International Airport near Osaka, which leaves around 230pm daily... Perfect timing and it only takes about 110 minutes!

Such a lovely experience at this Buddhist temple. The Shojin Royri (Buddhist vegetarian meal) was delicious, and waking up to partake in the 6:30 am prayer is not to miss.

Incredible! Everything from the accommodations (our room was enormous and had three bathrooms!), the food (beautiful, healthy and delicious), the service (perfection), location... All wonderful and perfect... I will come back again!
