The Madarao Mountain Resort is a quite big snow resort. It takes about 1 hour to get there from the downtown of Nagano city.

There are various kind of slopes, flat and perfectly groomed slopes, steep and ungroomed ones, ski/snowboard park, and controlled natural forest areas for tree run. The resort offers a lot of fun for advanced skiers and borders, however to be honest it may not be the perfect place to bring beginners and kids. There is only a few slopes flat, wide and gentle for beginners.

If you visit by car, car parks No.8 or No.7 are recommended. A deposit of JPY500 is required for a lift ticket, and the deposit can be refunded from the ticket office, if you park at the No.8.

If you park at the No.7, you need to take the lift No.1 to get back to the car park No.7, you should NOT refund at the ticket office. The deposit can be refunded at the coffee shop in the No. 7.

Most of our skii experience are here. We always go back here every end of year. But always watch out for bad weather. There is restaurant nearby but we and our friends ate only to our favorite shougayaki master near resort. It is so delicious but do the early yoyaku because seats are very limited.

Amazing views, good skiing options (especially powder runs and ungroomed runs) and a pizza box lift!

A small ski field with lots of different terrain options for beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. It's not so well known as Nozawa Onsen and Niseko. But that's what attracts people to come here.

In the busy weeks, lift lines are still no more than 10 min. A hidden gem only 2h away by Shinkansen from Tokyo.

Wonderful spot for snowboarding and skiing for beginners and pro people. There are couple of courses to enjoy. The snow is so soft maybe which is often concern of beginners. Views are wonderful. I prefer the sky view. It’s so amazing.

Wonderful ski location. The hotels at the base of each side of the mountain offer lift tickets in the price of the room for all sides of the mountain as well as 4 hour passes for the side you are on. Many different skilled runs and well taken care of.

We went snowboarding here last weekend and it was a really nice ski resort. I can recommend the Ocean View and Crystal View course, perfect for intermediate snowboarders. The restaurants are also good but a bit pricey, more than 1k yen per meal.

Great ski resort for beginners/intermediate riders and didn’t need to wait for the lifts as it was so quick. Beautiful runs with trees and snow was very soft. Will definitely try and come back here again!

I had the pleasure of visiting the Madarao Kogen Ski Resort in Nagano Prefecture last winter, and it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic winter escape. This hidden gem of a resort exceeded my expectations in terms of both skiing opportunities and overall experience.

First and foremost, the ski slopes at Madarao Kogen were an absolute delight. With a variety of trails catering to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers, there was something for everyone. The resort's well-maintained slopes provided exhilarating descents and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding snow-covered mountains. The snow quality was excellent throughout my stay, ensuring optimal conditions for skiing and snowboarding.

The resort's amenities were equally impressive. The ski equipment rental services were efficient, and the staff was helpful and knowledgeable, making it easy for newcomers to get properly equipped and ready for the slopes. The ski instructors were patient and experienced, offering valuable guidance and lessons for those who wished to improve their skiing skills.

In terms of accommodation, the lodges and hotels within the resort were comfortable and conveniently located. I had the pleasure of staying at one of the slopeside lodges, which provided easy access to the ski lifts and stunning views of the slopes. The rooms were cozy, well-maintained, and equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

The dining options at Madarao Kogen were diverse and satisfying. From cozy mountain cafes to traditional Japanese restaurants, there was a wide range of culinary choices available. I particularly enjoyed the local specialties, such as hearty ramen and delicious tempura, which provided the perfect fuel after a day of skiing.

One aspect that truly stood out during my visit was the friendly and welcoming atmosphere created by the staff and fellow visitors. The sense of community at Madarao Kogen was palpable, with skiers and snowboarders sharing stories and tips, creating a vibrant and inclusive environment.

In conclusion, this resort is a hidden gem that offers unforgettable winter adventures. With its well-groomed slopes, excellent snow quality, comfortable accommodations, and warm hospitality, it is a destination that I highly recommend to anyone seeking a memorable winter getaway.

Beautiful mountain with lots of tree runs and ungroomed sections, if you like that. Plenty of nice groomers too.
Best food I've ever had at a resort.
