親の転勤で3歳から小学校卒業まで河津で育ちました。その時通った小学校なんですが、日本人にとって小学校こそはイコール故郷とも言えるので、卒業後、宿泊すらしたこともありませんが、いまだに心の故郷です。かなり前に立ち寄ってみたことがあります、その時点で30年近く経っていたと思うのですが、校舎は鉄筋の新しいものでしたが、遊戯に使われる設備はおそらく私たちが使っていたものが残っているようでした。子供の頃はとても大きいと思っていたグラウンドも大人になってから見るとさほど大きくはなくビックリしましたが、河津という風光明媚、海山川そして温泉、河津桜、七滝と全てに恵まれた土地のほぼ中央に位置し、他に海に東小学校、山に西小学校という位置関係もあり、やはり中央という意識はありました。そういう意味では、全てが揃った子供が育つのに最も最適な小学校だと、今も思っています。
