This is breathtaking. It's amazing to be in the middle of a historic structure. That was built in B.C. and still here.

This church was probably built around the end of the 5th century AD and was destroyed by a fire or an earthquake in the following century. The quality of the floor mosaics, which pave both side aisles and are well preserved, attest to the church's significance.

You have to detach from the main road for a moment and go up a hill on the right, do it, it's really worth it. The mosaics are crazy and in excellent condition. Visiting it makes you see the multicultural nature of this fantastic heritage.

An early byzantine church with 84 mosaic medallions, because of the symmetrical figures I think it used to be called "Noahs church ⛪ "

My favourite spot in Petra, it's very close to the main road and almost no animals go there so it's clean of feces and there's almost no flies.

Stunning mosaics inside!

As the title says this was a Byzantine church. Knowing that is is very crazy because that means Petra was used by many people from different times. It is nice to see how the architecture differed a bit. The main hilight of this sight is the mosaic floors. They are very well kept and a must see to compare the different eras of Petra. This location is a bit hidden and is off the main path, but when you see a white tent as you walk towards the museum that is it.

Amazing covered floors are found in this church built in around 450 ( amazing! ) :-) I over use that word around here! It was discovered in 1990 and was excavated in 1992-1998. They found 152 papyrus scrolls in the church - the largest ancient written material found in Jordan - and was carbon dated to the 7th C. History!

The icon figures mosaic floor tiles were well preserved under the rubble from earlier fire and earthquake damage. Work in progress continues by archaeologists and still requires sponsors to continue restoration tasks,

This is the main church of the complex comprising the Petra Church, the Blue Church and the Ridge Church.

The Petra Church has a tripartite basilica measuring 26 x 15 meters with three inscribed apses and three corresponding entrances. It was probably built in the last half of the fifth century AD. The church’s preserved mosaic floor, sheltered under a protecting ceiling, has beautiful illustrations. Many of these images lie inside circular medallions and depict animals, birds, humans, vegetable produce, and vessels, as well as personifications of the four seasons, the ocean, earth and wisdom.

This complex of three churches was built over earlier Nabatean buildings and tombs, which remained in use throughout the Roman period before Christianity became dominant in Petra in the fifth century AD, at which time some buildings and tombs were converted to churches. The carved figures found inside the Petra Church, for example, are Nabatean, suggesting that these may have been recovered from an earlier temple.

Great mosaic on the ground. You can see a baptism chamber in the rear. Good restoration.

The history in this place is amazing. A city that had been around since 300 BC. If the buildings could tell the stories.

Although nothing much to see as a church, one could see the ruins of it, some flooring intact. Worth to know it’s history.

About Petra
Historical place in Jordan

Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu or Raqēmō, is a historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system, Petra is also called the "Rose City" because of the colour of the sandstone from which it is carved; it was famously called "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a poem of 1845 by John Burgon. source
