An absolutely awesome experience. It's an enjoyable walk through the canyons leading to this beautiful site. Seeing the Treasury for the first time was breathtaking. There are so many cool sites to see once you get past the Treasury. I'm so glad I went to see this "Wonder Of The World". If you go, plan to spend at least several hours there

A note of caution. There are a lot of vendors trying to sell you all kinds of souvenirs, photos with camels, horseback rides, etc. Be sure to negotiate any and all prices especially for getting on a camel and getting a picture. Beware of your surroundings as there are a lot of people.

It's one of the must-see when you're in Jordan. We walked the more than 4 kilometres trek going to the Treasury, a rose coloured monumental building carved out of sheer rock. Others can opt to ride the golf cart and pay $37 round trip. Camels and horses are also available for hire for more adventurous tourists. Souvenir shops of bedouins can be found at the entrance plus some restaurants.

Tips for the marvelous experience!

We spent 7 hours walking in this incredible park and it wasn’t enough to see all of this beauty! Ancient site with lots of history.

Quick tips:

1. If you want to have a picture from the top with the Treasury in the background, pay 10-15$ per person max!! No more!! The local guys will help you with that, you won’t be able to do it on your own!

2. There are no shortcuts! Do not believe the locals who are trying to take money from you for that. You will spend more time ans energy with these shortcuts.

3. From the beginning of the walk they offer the ride on the horse that is included in your tickets. HOWEVER, they want you to tip them afterwards. We never used them tbh, cause the animals look really sad and they have the marks all over their bodies

4. If you would like to help some kids, they would love to get some sweets/ fruits from you :)

Gorgeous and mind blowing site, note that you have to start early in the morning, so you will have enough time to visit “the monastery”. It needs certain physical preparation, a lot of water and good hat. If you aren’t not a good hiker, you can just take a donkey or a horse, it will be so much easier and timesaver. Prepare for great adventures!!!

Amazing archaeologic site! I went there today, 17 July 2022. A big site with lots of archaeological spot. What a little bit annoying is the vendors who Non-stopped offering their goods or animal ride and followed you around even you already said No. Other than that, the beauty of the Treasury, Palace Tomb, etc, has mesmerized me. You should put Petra in your bucket list! I would recommend to pick the perfect time of year to avoid the heat. But if you go in July/August, do start early in the morning at 7 at least, bring water bottle to keep rehydrated. A fit body is better for the endurance of walking. Keep friendly with the local vendors, one is helping me a lot around there.

Petra is an ancient city that lies in present-day Jordan and dates back to the fourth century B.C. Ruins of the once-great metropolis and trading center now serve as an important archeologic site and tourist attraction.
Petra is located about 150 miles south of both Jerusalem and Amman, the capital of Jordan, and about midway between Damascus, Syria, and the Red Sea, making it ideally suited as a hub of commerce in the area.

The site is considered significant by historians and archeologists alike because of its beautiful rock-cut architecture and innovative water management system, the latter of which made the region inhabitable, given that it is surrounded by desert and rugged, mountainous terrain.
Petra has also been referred to as the “Rose City” because of the color of the stones used in its buildings. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

The whole park is an amazing area and a dive into past times. Take enough water with you and reserve the whole day for it (coming early will be worth it). Compared to many other sights, the entrance fee here is really pricy, but once there you want to go in anyhow. Be careful inside as a lot of people will try selling you stuff or want money from you for taking a photo.
