The North Theater

The North Theater shouldn't be missed if you're visiting Jordan and especially Jerash. The theater could seat thousands of people, and, even though it's partially collapsed now, we enjoyed sitting at the top and marveling at the size and imagining what it must have been like to watch performances in its day.

The theater is located a little way from the visitor center, so be prepared to do some walking to reach it. Comfortable shoes are recommended, but it’s worth the effort it for the panoramic views of the ancient city once you arrive. Also, since there’s not much shade, make sure to wear sunscreen and possibly bring a hat and liquid to stay hydrated.

We thought it was very cool to have one of our group on stage – speaking in a reasonable voice and see how well we could hear while seated in various parts of the theater. Its incredible acoustics means you can clearly hear voices, all without electronic amplification!

We enjoyed our visit to Jerash and the North Theater remains an engineering marvel and the must-see highlight of our trip. Climbing up the original stone seats is an unforgettable experience that makes the past feel present in Jordan.

Visited this middle sized Theater around 17:00, almost no other visitors around.

Very quite place, not many people reached this theater, so you can enjoy the peace here.

Bellissimo teatro molto ben conservato nel corso dei secoli. È più piccolo rispetto all’altro teatro (quello sud) ma vale assolutamente la pena una visita perché è molto bello. C’è anche la possibilità di arrivare sulla cima dei gradoni da delle scale interne.

Richtig tolles Theater welches dem Theater im südlichen Bereich in nichts nachsteht und erstmal von weitem etwas unscheinbar am linken wegesrand liegt und von dort aus erst nach unten geht. Es ist zwar etwas kleiner, aber das fällt kaum auf. Von hier aus geht es dann in Richtung Nordtor und wieder zurück auf dem langen Säulenweg in Richting des ovalen großen Platzes. - Das beste ist, dass man sich komplett frei bewegen und das Theater auf eigene Faust erkunden kann. Es ist eine sehr imposante Bauweise.

Splendido teatro romano situato nella parte nord del sito di Jerash. E' un po' più piccolo del teatro sud, ma non per questo è meno interessante, anzi. Personalmente mi è piaciuto ancora di più. Si possono scendere delle lunghe scale che portano a delle uscite su diversi livelli. Veramente bellissimo!

Splendido teatro molto ben conservato, anche se più piccolo regala comunque delle bellissime foto ed è possibile visitarlo completamente dalla cima dei gradini fino ai cunicoli più bui. Veramente spettacolare da visitare assolutamente!

Za nás najkrajšia časť historickej časti Jerashu a jedno zmála najviac zachovaných divadiel :)

واحد من أبرز المواقع الأثرية في مدينة جرش والذي يستقبل يومياً أعداد كبيرة من الزوار المحليين والسياح من عشاق التاريخ والأثار الرومانية
تم تشييد هذا الموقع في القرن الثاني الميلادي وتحديداً في عام 165م، ويتسع هذا المسرح لحوالي 3000 متفرج، ويمتاز بنظام صوتي ممتاز. ولا يزال هذا المسرح محافظ على شكله وتصميمه الأصلي ويتم استخدامه كمسرح مركزي في المناسبات الثقافية والفنية المُقامة في الأردن، ومنها مهرجان جرش السنوي والذي تأسس عام 1983م ليحتوي العديد من العروض المميزة.

Fantástico teatro bien conservado. Este se encontraba en la zona cívica de la vieja ciudad de Jerash.

В эллинический период в Герасе было два главных храмовых комплекса, предназначенных для почитания Зевса и Артемиды. В каждом комплексе был свой театр. Северный театр соотносится с храмом Артемиды, который расположен по соседству. Древние строители возвели театр на северном склоне храмового холма, используя при этом природный рельеф. Благодаря этому театр имеет два входа, нижний - от декумануса, это улица направления восток-запад в римских городах, и верхний - от храма Артемиды. Так получилось, что я вошла через нижний вход и сразу увидела монументальный портик и парадные лестницы. Внутри было прохладно, просто спасение в невероятно жаркий день. По широкой лестнице поднялась наверх, откуда хорошо видна не только сцена, но и окрестности археологического парка. На вершине зрительного зала есть крепления, с помощью которых натягивали тент, он защищал зрителей от палящего солнца. Изначально на этом месте в 164-165 г.г. построили одеон, а через полвека его расширили и превратили в театр. С победой христианства античные постройки начали терять свое значение и приходить в упадок. Землетрясение 551 года довершило безрадостную картину разрушений. Хорошо, что власти Иордании занимаются реконструкцией древних построек. Театр я покидала через верхний вход, вышла - и сразу оказалась на вершине храмового склона, очень удобно. Театр мне очень понравился. По-моему, это самая лучшая постройка древней Герасы.

El teatro norte de Jerash es una estructura romana digna de visitar, se encuentra en muy buenas condiciones despues de casi 2000 años, increible.
