Nature and history. You will find here remains of a former fishing village and nice sea view. The place is accesible from the main route but you have to go about 10 minutes on a dirt route. I recommend not to go to the beach but let the car at a parking place about 500m from the beach. Directly from the parking place there is a side trail to the village.

This is a beautiful isolated path with sea in front and mountains behind. It really needs at least a half-day though because there is so much to explore and search for at the shore - the ruins of the ancient fishing settlement are blended into the landscape really seamlessly. There's apparently a ghost called Tanga Tómas, but he didn't bother me at all 😊

Coolest lava field ever! Sweet caves and ocean views!! Even found a lava slug. It was awesome. Bumpy road, need some knowledge of how to drive tough terrain but totally manageable for any car. We didn’t go towards the ruins. Explored the lava field on the right hand side and walked towards the ocean. Insane.

Incredible beach but I think everyone misses the lava cave system which collapsed and left ruins which look exactly like Mordor in lord of the rings. There is even a somewhat tower in the middle.
A few caves to climb into, amazing cliff on the sea. Just in general a nice place to visit.

Beautiful beach. Dark and moody when we visited. Wild and windy and very cold. Well worth a visit. Very rough road to the car park.

So cool! Amazing to walk over a moss covered lava field and then end up at a fishing village that has been used since the 14th century. The ruins just line the beach so keep following the trail down and then you will run right in to them. The beach was also beautiful and the vegetation just other worldly. Enjoy!

Amazing view of the beautiful Iceland coast line. The waves are powerful here and the percussion of their impact can be heard from a great distance. Really amazing to see the power of the ocean. Be aware however, the road getting out to this spot was one of the roughest we encountered in Iceland. 4wd is highly advised

A stunning and wild part of the coast, with trails spanning lichen covered lava fields and remnants of a fishing village dating back to the 12th century. Highly recommended!

Very cool. How people managed to get themselves fed in the middle ages is beyond me and this fish station must have been a dirty smelly place

Thought provoking ruins of a medieval fishing village. What really set this apart from other Icelandic attractions was that we were the only souls around.

Cool spot to visit for a quick hike. Trail can be hard to keep track of but the ruins are pretty obvious. Saw fox tracks while I was there too! I took my 2WD (unknowingly) down the 4x4 track and made it ok, just had to go slow.

Super bumpy road to a small parking place best driven with a larger car, best a 4WD. Nice view on the sea and the really black and beach.
Should be a nice little hike on a good day. (We visited this'll place at a rainy windy day, so skipped it)

Great ruins! It's a little bit of a hike but once you find the trail, it's worth it. Trail leaves off the parking lot, which takes you right there, or you can follow the 4x4 track, which is a little harder to find.

Amazing black sand beach, like on most of the island. There's a fun little road that goes down to the sea, but I'd advise you only attempt it in a 4X4/AWD vehicle.
