Lake Vifilsstadavatn

This is one of the prettiest places you will find in Iceland and the history here is amazing, given the establishment of Iceland's first parliament here over 1000 years ago. The views are great, with lots of islands in the lake, the river flowing through the Thingvellir site is pleasant and there are lots of birds around to interest a naturalist. Here you can see the impact of titanic geologic forces that are still shaping the land after thousands of years. A must see place on any itinerary.

Lake Vifilsstadavatn is a fantastic location for long walks and relaxing views. We visited in late-June and we were greeted with these vibrant purple-coloured flowers called "Nootka" or "Alaskan Lupines". These flowers stretch along the entire horizon, and everywhere you see has been turned into purple. But BEWARE of the Arctic Tern birds that are nesting here - as they won't hesitate to peck at you if you approach even a few feet away from their nest.

Really beautiful place. The walk is not to short or to long its perfect.

Can be a good escape if it's really windy in Reykjavik

We in Iceland have lots of water glaciers, steam, rivers and lakes.

Awesome if you like walk and birds watching.

Trevligt ställe om man njuta lite av naturen.

Umhverfi hið snotrasta. Gönguleið umhverfis vatnið hæfilega löng og endurnærir hugann. Stutt upp að vörðinni Gunnhildi, hvar útivistarmaðurinn fær hina ágætustu sýn á Esjuna, Álftanesið Sundin og almennt öll fjöllin og suður á Reykjanes.
