I had spent 4 nights with Vali in April 2024 and it went by quickly I really enjoyed his company, we spent hours just talking, his wife’s traditional food is sublime thus highly recommended and their son Reza is very entertaining as-well and thus a great tour-guide for Kang village if you chose to do so.

Location was good about 30 min walk to the centre/shrine, but very close to the metro station and snap is easy to use.

I slept in the downstairs dormitory and if you’re used to budget hostels you will be fine, I was most satisfied! they have a good western toilet and a great hot water shower inside and a traditional toilet outside.
WiFi was great.
He also has a varied and diverse collection of rugs/carpets that I couldn’t purchase and was under no pressure to do so.
Vali would also be a great assistance if your travelling to both neighbouring countries. I didn’t go but he would be first person I would contact if I do so in the future.
I would most certainly stay in Vali’s if I ever return to Mashhad and I hope so.

Valis Homestay is a Perfect Place to arrive in Mashad. Since there are not many Backpacker Places in Mashhad this is where you should go to have some English speaking Host and probably other tourists to exchange Information. It’s a true Homestay, not luxury but perfectly fine for the price, especially if you can sleep outside in the yard or terrace, and you‘ll live close to the family. I recommend to join the everyday dinner from Valis Wife! It’s delicious and effortable.

Vali’s homestay in my opinion is the best place for any traveler to stay in Mashhad, regardless of budget level! He welcomes you into his family for your entire stay and his family’s cooking is absolutely amazing— best Persian food you’ll likely have during your time in Iran. Also one thing I really appreciated was that he had a western style sitting toilet and good shower facilities.

He knows the entire region like the back of his hand, so whether you need info or visa work for places like Turkmenistan or Afghanistan, or information on Iran and the surrounding area, he knows and can arrange all. His place is a one stop shop and he can take care of anything you need, whether you need something like money exchanged or in the event you’ve lost all your money in Iran, you can even wire him money and he can provide you cash like an informal ATM.

I highly recommend Vali’s place, for the stories and also the hospitality, and because it is an oasis of travelers in the region.

Vali is a man very passionate about his job and he has a lifetime of experience in tourism. He takes a lot of time to show you around city and for conversations with guests. I stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Although Mashhad might not be the go to tourist destination Valis tour around the city and to villages in the surroundings made it very worthwhile. In contrast to many other hostels I got along very well with the guests there was no awkward anonymity. I can recommend eating at least one dinner here which is very good and affordable.

Vali is unique in his own way and a wonderful human being. The concept of a homestay is to welcome you to their homestead while providing you with additional tourist opportunities (e.g. dine with locals, going out of the city on excursions). I managed to balance my itinerary between Vali's offers and my own adventures around. The latter comes at a small fee but you experience will be worth it. You don't have to get offended by his suggestions, politely decline if you don't want. A huge bonus is trying their breakfast.

Valis Guesthouse seems the place to be in Mashad. It's one of those great silk road spots where you will meet a lot of longterm travelers exchanging their experiences and stories. Vali himself is very knowledgeable, you can ask him anything from information about the Turkmenistan embassy to which bus to take to the highway for hitchhiking. Very delicious food as well!

I had very great and relaxing time at this home. This home is really cozy and feels like a home. His wife cooked for me a tasty Iranian food. Definitely recommended for a stay in Mashhad.

Staying here means you are staying with a family - the Host Vali has several decades of experience working with guests and has huge experience both from his own travels and stories that his guests bring. He speaks 7+ languages and countless stories dating back to Shah times - it was most pleasant experience to have met him! He is now like my Persian Grandfather. Also, be ready to learn about rugs. Oh, and the homecooked foods! Delicious! It is a whole package and definitely a true HOME-stay!

Very friendly homestay in a convenient location, with a dorm and a couple of private rooms. Delicious home cooking. Great prices on carpets and both Vali and his son Reza are knowledgeable and entertaining tour guides. Recommended!!
