During the Treta Yuga, when Lord Ram was traveling along with Sati after his coronation, he came to this area, and Sitamma made a lingam with sand in a platform next to the burial ground on the south side of the Gostani river, which is about one kilometer from Palangi village. Because of this, Lord Siva here is known as "Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy". Therefore, this temple is facing west and Gostani river (stream) is flowing in the north, there is Ramaghatta temple in the east and south direction there is a cremation ground in front of this temple.
