The statue is located atop a hill. You can walk steps or take a car from back road. The Gomteshwar statue is 44 Feet high. It was made below and carried to the hill. Visit early morning or late evening to avoid sun. Do check out great views of neareby forest area and Chaturmukha Temple.

Karkala's Gomateshwara statue is a must-see for history and architecture lovers. The 42 ft tall monolithic statue is imposing and impressive, and the surrounding hills offer stunning views. The climb up to the statue is a bit steep, but the reward is worth it. There’s also a rear entrance whereby you can take the car upto the top by paying Rs 50/- entrance fee. The site is well-maintained and clean, with plenty of parking and restrooms. A great place to learn about Jainism and Karnataka's rich cultural heritage.

This is the second tallest statue of Bahubali in the world. Situated at Karkala, Karnataka.
was built in 1432 CE by Veera Pandya Bhairarasa Wodeyar in Santara dynasty on advice from Lalitakirti, who was the Bhattaraka at that time. Statue is situated at a walkable distance from Karkala bus stand, Autos are available which charges only 50-/ rs. Entry is free, no tickets needed. If you are coming by bus, you have to climb many steps built upto the small hill where the statue is situated, about 600-700 metres. 2-3 small coffee shops are available at the entry point. People who comes in own vehicles can take their vehicles to the top of the hill upto the statue through another road, which leads to the backside of the statue. Better to visit in the mornings and evenings. Statue and premises are kept neat and clean. We can watch the Charturmugha Jaina basadi from the top of the hill.

No entry fee, 600 years old Gomateshwara statue.
There’s road which is accessible only by four wheelers to the peak of the temple.

It can also be accessed by steps, which is easy too and gives a good overview of the landscape and can also witnesses Chaturmukha Jain Basadi from the top.

Mesmerizing views!

They said it has been around 1000+ years and the top view is just awesome with numerous tanks & mountains to watch. I think its been renovated during Modi Ji's visit.

There are around 700 steps & can take anytime around 1.5hr to 2.5hr to cover the place based on one's stamina.

There won't be any water / good available on the top so please do carry some if you need be.

Check out the latest pics for reference.

Best sunset view in the town :) reach around 5 and spend the evening here. You shall have splendid view of the town from the top! You will see lots of locals in the place. The locals are never tired of going here. The snacks and fast food you get on the entrance before climbing is yum and cultural for those staying in Karkala. Never miss eating kurlu pacchodi (or churmuri, jhalmuri in Hindi) from the old uncle sitting here selling every evening.

This is the second tallest statue of Bahubali in the world with the largest statue located at Shravanabelagola.
We went on a Tuesday, and it was hardly crowded. The caretaker of ASI has his number displayed prominently on the entry gate. There are 2 routes, one through steps and another through a road that takes you till the entrance. The entry fee for the car is ₹50/- You need to open and close the entry gate yourself.
Washrooms are at the base near the start of the steps. Washrooms were not very clean.
All nearby monuments were surprisingly closed and we couldn’t visit them.

The Karkala Gommateshwara Statue is a famous Jain sculpture located in Karkala, a town in the Udupi district of Karnataka, India. The statue is one of the largest monolithic statues in the world, standing at a height of 42 feet, and is considered to be one of the most significant Jain pilgrimage sites in South India.

The statue is a depiction of Lord Bahubali, who was the son of the first Tirthankara of Jainism, Lord Adinatha. Lord Bahubali is considered to be an embodiment of self-control, renunciation, and detachment in Jainism.

The Karkala Gommateshwara Statue was built in the 15th century by the Jain ruler of Karkala, Veera Pandya Bhairava Varma. The statue was carved out of a single granite rock, and it took several years to complete the sculpture.

Here resides the monolith idol of Bahubali, 42 feet tall from Jain faith built during 15th century AD. He signifies one of many Jain saints who attained enlightenment. The statue stands on top of a hill and steps leading to it and there exists a drivable road too. Every 12 years, the statue gets a special bath in a grand ceremony. This statue is one of many monolith statues around India.

My weekend visit to the Karkala Shree Gommateswara statue was an experience to remember. As I approached the statue, I was presented with two distinct ways to reach the hilltop – one through a flight of steps and the other through a separate gate accessible by car.Opting for the car entrance, I was taken on a serene drive that led straight to the hill, offering picturesque views of nature . The sight of swaying coconut trees and the tranquil lake added to the charm of the visit.Standing before the towering Shree Gommateswara statue, I couldn't help but marvel at its intricate details, each whispering stories of the past. The statue's historical significance, dating back to the 15th century, was deeply felt as I absorbed the atmosphere. This experience truly allowed me to immerse myself in both history and nature. Whether you're drawn by the spiritual significance, the rich history, or the natural beauty that envelopes the site, the Karkala Shree Gommateswara statue is a destination that effortlessly weaves them all together. It's a place where time seems to stand still, inviting contemplation and appreciation of the wonders that surround it.

Excellent masterpiece of Jain architecture dedicated to Lord Gommateswara. This is supposed to be the second tallest Gommateswara after the one located in Shravanabelagola. The views from this place is mesmerizing and you don't feel like going back again. There are about 200 steps to climb and separate road also for those who cannot climb by vehicles.

One of the best places to see architecture after shravanabelgola, not much of a crowd, parking facilities are a little bit confusing, food and soft drinks are available at the spot, bathroom facilities are good.

People enjoys with family and friends as this location is good for eve views. Stairs to climb and nice and amazing view from the top. There is plenty of spaces for parking vehicles. It has no time mentioned in the google. It closes at 5:45 pm in the evening. So be prepared accordingly.

There is no entrance behind the temple as map guides you through. SO as soon as you reaches to the corner of this statue campus, just drive in and park your vehicle around the stairs and start climbing. NO ENTRY FEE. There are a lot of food and water facilities around. So Enjoy your stress free time!!

A good within ten min climb. Not too steep. Opens after 8am. Calm and a quiet place. A tank behind which has been polluted obviously by few tourists still the temple retains it's energy. Good view of the hills around and is a heaven spot for photographers
