Chitreshwar Temple, in Chitreshwar village, houses the largest natural Shiva linga in India, although not known to many people. The next largest is at Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. The present temple dates back to 10th century and was built by the Soma Vamsi or Keshari dynasty of Orissa. This temple was built in Orissan temple architecture. Traditionally believed to be about 3000 years old and finding mention in the Utkala Khanda of Skandha Purana.

It is believed that all the wishes made here are fulfilled, and Lord Shiva blesses his devotees by fulfilling their wishes. Every year during February or March on the day of Maha Shivaratri or the Shiva Chaturdasi festival, devotees of Lord Shiva come from distant places to pray to the god. This event attracts a few thousand people annually. A huge "Mela" or Fair is held at this time. Devotees do "tongue piercing" on this occasion. The village also has "Subarnarekha" river passing by its side. It is believed and witnessed by the people of this village that gold float on the banks of this river "Subarnarekha".

Very positive and good vibes in and around the temple. Blessings of Shiva is always with everyone who comes into this temple and on everyone who live here. Temple is clean and pujari ji is also very cooperative for doing Pooja inside the temple.

It's near my paternal village and we are born by lord chitreswar mahadev's grace. The temple priests know our family well and we are connected to the place by our belief for the past 4 generations. The temple needs to be maintained by the government. The shivling is the largest naturally occurring in India, followed by lingaraj temple in bhubaneswar, but the place hasn't received any recognition. The Jharkhand government needs to preserve the rich history and culture of the Chitreswar Mahadev Temple.

Swayambhu shivling, you need to travel abit nside from the highway to visit this temple. Crowded only on big festivals, you can offer your puja here. Local food stalls and Prasad stalls available nearby. Open parking available for car and bike parking. It's really beautiful

The devotees of Lord Shiva must have a visit here. The linga was separated in two pieces vertically duo fight between two kings. There are two separate pujaries to worship both parts from two different sides.

This is the most popular temple in Baharagora block. Hundreds of devotees come to worship the Lord Shiva everyday. On every Monday and on special days the village fills with the crowd of thousands of people. The place is very nice. If the temple building could be renovated then it would have been better and more attractive.
