Excellent place. Went in the rainy season. Famous temple, Main shooting place in "Neelathamara" Malayalam movie. Old and traditional temples.

Now there is no maintenance, Pond and temple are in bad conditions because of the temple board. Government should take care this temple to save Kerala culture.

Superb temple with excellent location.

A small village temple in Kudallur. It has got several mentions in the literature of legendary writer of Kerala M.T Vasudevan nair.

The temple is famous for Neelathamara. If the prayer to god is intense and honest and if Dakshina has given to god, then Neelathamara will bloom in the temple pond. The person who prayed can collect the flower from the pond. This is the story about the Neelathamara. This temple became famous after a film penned by MT released in 2009 of same name.
The roads leading to temple is also very attractive, paddy fields and other beauties of culture of cultivation can be seen.

The temple pond is not well maintained by authorities, it is filled with wastes and algae.

My visit date was 27.12.2021

Legends say that, if one prays with full heart and places offerings at the feet of the lord Ayyappa, the "Chengazhi Neer" flower, also known as "Neelathamara", will bloom the very next day in the temple pond as a sign of God's blessing.

This special flower called "Chengazhinir Poovu" which is traditionally used as offering to deity is found and grown only in the temple pond.

Manamakkavu is a temple in our locality which still maintains the old architecture, when we visited there recently, we saw a board about the plan for renovation.A humble request to the authorities, please do not plan for a concrete structure with lot of tiles and steel sheet work, my suggestion is to just strengthen as it is, wherever needed and maintain the beauty and peacefulness we get from the temple

Malamakkavu Ayyappa Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to lord Ayyappan, located in Anakkara Panchayath in Palakkad district of Kerala. A special flower called "Chengazhinir Poovu" which is traditionally used as offering to deity is found and grown only in the temple pond. This temple was depicted in the Malayalam movie Neelathamera, though the film was recorded elsewhere as no permission was given to shoot the film on the temple premises.
The temple is one of the 108 Ayyappan temples in Kerala. Its main idol, Ayyappan is oriented to the east so that offerings can be made. Other idols are Bhagavathi and Lord Siva. The temple's festival, "Thalapoli" is celebrated on the last Saturday of the month of Dhanu. The temple is owned and managed by the Zamindar family of Padinjarepat Nambiar clan. Temple pond is situated to the east of the premises.
Temple name is variously spelled as 'Mala-Mel-Kavu', 'Mala-Mal-kavu' or 'Mala-yil-Kavu'. They all mean "A temple (Kavu) located on top (Mel) of a small hill(Mala)". All spellings are correct, but the second one of these is used in the official temple sign board.

Legends say that, if one prays with full heart and places offerings at the feet of the lord Ayyappa, the "Chengazhi Neer" flower, also known as "Neelathamara", will bloom the very next day in the temple pond as a sign of God's blessing. This legend associated with Malamakkavu Ayyappa temple plays a pivotal role in the film Neelathamara. Thiyattu Nambiars, who has the right to conduct the Thiyattu ceremony in Ayappan temples has a branch in Malamakkavu, where they live in the vicinity of Malamakkavu Temple.

This Ayyappan temple is called as Mala mel Kavu or Malayil Kavu in the Anakkara Panchayath in Palakkad district . Though the name indicates that it is on the mountain, it is only situated in the plains. One of the specialties of the temple is that a rare flower called CHenkazhuneer poovu is found in the temple tank.
It is believed that that hundreds of years earlier one low caste woman went to the forest around here for grazing cattle When she was sharpening her knife on a rock , it started bleeding .They immediately the nearby village , who through Prasnam found that rock was lord Ayyappa.. They immediately built a sanctum and sanctified that rock as Lord Ayyappa. This happened about 300 years ago.Along with the Ayyappan temple there are also idols oh Goddess BHagawathi and Lord Shiva in the temple . There are also Rudiramaha Kali, Vettakorumugan and Nagas consecrated in the temple .It has been recognized as one of the 108 temples of Dharma Sastha in Kerala and it is managed by a the Padinjarepat nambiar family . ADa is the main offering at the temple .The Ayyappan idol faces the east .The main festival of the temple is a THalappoli celebrated on the last Saturday of the month of Dhanu .The pond of the temple is situated in the temple premises itself. It is believed that if a devotee offers a Chenkazhuneer flower at the feet of Dharma Sastha with great devotion , a blue lotus(Neela Thamara) would bloom in the next day in the temple pond.A film based on this legend called “Neelathamara” has been produced in Malayalam. This temple can be reached from Guruvayur within an hour by driving.,
